Story
Meet Winona – The Petite Sweetheart! Winona is an adorable 5-year-old mix, weighing just 12 pounds. She was rescued from a home with many other dogs, including Brussels Griffons, West Highland Terriers, and Pekingese — so her exact mix is a mystery. What isn’t a mystery is how completely lovable she is! This little girl may be small, but she’s full of charm and affection. She’s ready to share her heart with a family who will give her the patience, kindness, and love she deserves. and who has another dog fro her to learn from Winona is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and ready for her forever home. Story
Alexandra (born 1/23/2025) came to the Humane Society of New York as a small puppy because she had been attached by another dog who injured her eye. We immediately took her to the ophthalmologist who let us know that she was blind in that eye and would not see from her left eye for the rest of her life. We followed the doctor’s orders, and though her left eye will never have sight, with extra special care and nursing her eye did not have to be removed. Alexandra will need to be on daily eye drops, but otherwise, she can enjoy a wonderful happy life. Sweet, funny, playful Alexandra weighs 11 ½ pounds and her DNA Test revealed that she is 59.1% Pekingese, 20.7% Yorkshire Terrier and 20.2% Shih Tzu and absolutely One of A Kind! Alexandra has a wonderful friendly personality. She enjoys playing with her toys and the other small dogs, daily brushing (is a must!) and is currently wee wee pad trained. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. The Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We also have a great adoption matchmaking team who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. We start the process once you have submitted an application to us.
