Good with dogs,
Story
Name: DenzelGender: Neutered MaleBreed: Long Haired Chihuahua-PekineseAge: 5 years oldLocation: Arcade Looking for a handsome man for those holiday parties? I’m Denzel and I’m your guy! And yes…I AM as cool and talented as my namesake, Mr. Washington. I am full grown at 12’ish pounds and quietly loving. I traveled from Texas with my buddy Cookie; we have been together 4 years but I would be ok without him by my side if there are humans to love on me 24/7! I just want to be with my people whether it be on your lap, by your side or at your feet. I am completely housebroken and love, love, LOVE to walk on my leash (but not far…I have little legs)! If you have other dogs or dogs that visit frequently I will need slow introductions because I am not as trusting of them as my buddy Cookie is! And absolutely no cats for me…I try to eat them! I have met a boy who visits me daily and I like him so I think I would be ok with any age group.Denzel:• Is housebroken with a regular schedule;• Knows his name, stay, come and no;• Loves treats and will dance for them;• Enjoys walking on a leash;• Is dog-friendly;• Does not “do cats”;• Is not “yappy” but lets you know when someone approaches the house;• Smart, fun and loyal.Denzel would do best in a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time, especially if adopted without his buddy Cookie. Denzel is used to being in an X-pen or a gated off area at night but would be super happy to sleep in your bed! Denzel will need regular brushing and grooming to avoid matting of his long, luxurious hair. Is Denzel the right pup for you? Available for adoption as of 12/20.If you are interested in adopting Denzel, please apply at www.716paws.org/adopt or message the page if already approved ##2608267##

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY.  Murray and Pepper Lynn were rescued by our partner from a hoarding situation and will be arriving to Long Island on 12/6. This pup is dog and people friendly and would love to land directly into a foster-to-adopt home! Please submit an adoption application at Lcarescue.org or email lcarescue@gmail.com to learn more.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 14, 2025, 8:52 pm

Not good with cats,
Story
Alexandra (born 1/23/2025) came to the Humane Society of New York as a small puppy because she had been attached by another dog who injured her eye. We immediately took her to the ophthalmologist who let us know that she was blind in that eye and would not see from her left eye for the rest of her life. We followed the doctor’s orders, and though her left eye will never have sight, with extra special care and nursing her eye did not have to be removed. Alexandra will need to be on daily eye drops, but otherwise, she can enjoy a wonderful happy life. Sweet, funny, playful Alexandra weighs 11 ½ pounds and her DNA Test revealed that she is 59.1% Pekingese, 20.7% Yorkshire Terrier and 20.2% Shih Tzu and absolutely One of A Kind! Alexandra has a wonderful friendly personality. She enjoys playing with her toys and the other small dogs, daily brushing (is a must!) and is currently wee wee pad trained. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. The Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We also have a great adoption matchmaking team who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. We start the process once you have submitted an application to us. FOR AN APPLICATION, please visit http://humanesocietyny.org/adoptions/ and download then email your application to hsny.adopt@gmail.com. Our one and only location is: 306 East 59th Street (between 1st & 2nd Avenue) in Manhattan. If you'd like to sponsor Alexandra, please email amk.hsny@verizon.net. You can give as much or as little as you like. Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you! For additional information on the Humane Society of New York, please visit: humanesocietyny.org. Thank you!

Story
Mr Pork Chop is 2 years old and he is an interesting mix of Pekingese, Pomeranian and terrier - which makes this little 11lb boy so cute. He has a big personality and loves people and is an attention seeker. Pork Chop is happy go lucky, very social and wants to be the life of the party! At times he will try to climb up your leg to be held and share his kisses with you.
