Story
Meet Luna — a resilient sweetheart with a heart as big as her smile. Luna is a 4–5 year old spayed husky/shepherd mix who absolutely lights up when meeting new people! She came to RCHS 3 months ago after being hit by a car and ending up in a Wichita facility. RCHS was contacted to see if we could help. She has blossomed into a gentle, affectionate, and playful companion who’s just as happy greeting you at the door as she is curling up nearby for a cozy afternoon. This special girl has overcome a lot. After being hit by a car, Luna required surgery on her left hind leg and has been on a long road to recovery. She’s still healing and continues to work on rebuilding muscle and strength in that leg, but she’s making steady progress. Through it all, she’s shown incredible patience, grit, and resilience — her positive spirit truly shines! Luna may be a mature dog, but she still has a fun, playful side. She enjoys fetch, tug-of-war, and a good chew toy session. She has an adorable habit of crinkling her nose into a playful 'smile' when she’s excited. She’s also very food-motivated — mealtime is her favorite time of day, and she takes treats ever so gently. She’s both crate-trained and potty-trained, and she knows basic commands like sit, lie down, and stay. Like many huskies, she can be a little stubborn at times, so she’ll benefit from continued one-on-one training. At home, Luna is wonderfully adaptable. She enjoys neighborhood walks, but is just as content lounging around, often rolling onto her back against the couch or wall in her signature relaxed style. She currently lives with three cats and mostly ignores them, making her a great option for a cat-friendly home. Luna has also shown that she is wonderful with children. She has spent a weekend around a 4-month-old, a 1.5-year-old, and a 5-year-old, and was a gentle sweetheart the entire time. When it comes to other dogs, Luna does best with slow introductions and appears most comfortable with calm dogs who respect personal space. In her foster home, she has gotten into a few scuffles with a younger, high-energy dog when her boundaries were ignored, at times requiring separation. Because of this, Luna may do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has also shown patience and an ability to move past these incidents, so she may still thrive in a home with a mellow canine friend who understands boundaries. Luna is a patient, loving dog who has already come so far and still has so much to give. She’s ready to continue her journey with a forever family who will support her ongoing recovery, help her build strength, and give her all the love she deserves. Story
Hi, I'm Mark: Young, single, male with severe anxiety issues, looking for someone wanting a big, soft-hearted companion to chill with. I will pretty much be your shadow once I find you and I will make you happy to call me your own. I will contribute the following in exchange for a place to call home: I will bring you joy every time you give me a treat. (I take medicine every day for anxiety) I will lick the plates and bowls clean so you don’t have to spend so much time doing dishes. I promise they will be spotless. I will let you know when a person comes into our yard, knocks on the door; or even if they just happen to walk by our house and look at us, I mean you never know what they might be thinking. In return I would like a secure place to sleep - with you is my favorite place. I also really feel good on the couch or the big chair. A bowl of water and a bowl for food. I will need a promise to take me for walks and a fenced yard I can run around in. I also loved the dog park I went to. It was great fun! Cats? I don’t really care Chickens? They look fun but not worth chasing Children? I absolutely love the two littles that I live with now. One is 7 and one is 5. They play with me and it is so fun. Other dogs? It will take me a while to feel like they like me, but then we will be good buddies. This is the most important part - it will take me longer than usual to be comfortable with you. I will be very shy until I find my person. This 'person' is the one who takes the time to know me and read my nervous signals. This person will know that I get scared very easily and will take extra steps to get around the scary things. I really want to find my forever person. Please give me a chance to be the best furry pal you have ever known!
