Hi my name is Ricotta! I am a shy kind of dog who is looking for a patient owner who is willing to give me time to adjust and open up in my new home. I can be selective when it comes to new friends, so I’d like to meet any potential dog siblings before I go home. Once I get more comfortable, I will come out of my shell and start to show more of my true personality. If you are interested in meeting me, please fill out an adoption survey online or in the shelter.Ricotta has heartworm which means that this dog has parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Ricotta will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. There is additional information on heartworm disease and treatment available at our Adoption Desk. The heartworm injections for treatment are covered by HSHV, but there may be additional costs associated with clinical care.

Max is a sweet puppy who loves people and is eager to please. He’s highly food motivated, learns quickly, and knows several basic commands. He enjoys training, loves playing “Find It,” and is making great progress with potty training. He settles quickly in his crate at nap time. Here is a recent update from his foster:`Max had his cardiology recheck last week with the surgeon who performed his heart surgery.His echocardiogram looked great, and the pleural effusion (fluid around his lungs/chest) has completely resolved. The cardiologist was very happy with his recovery and expects Max to live a normal, active life. No additional cardiac treatment or routine follow-up is needed unless he develops symptoms such as fatigue, exercise intolerance, or collapsing. I`ve had him for almost six weeks and I`ve seen none of these symptoms.Max continues to grow and thrive. He now weighs 28 lb (12.7 kg). He’s playful, social, and very food-motivated. He’s doing well with potty training and signals when he needs to go outside. He does occasionally have accidents though. For example, after a case of the zoomies. He`s never had an accident in his crate. He’s a curious, energetic puppy who loves other dogs, exploring, and carrying around “treasures” like sticks and toys. `Max has a wonderful personality and will make an amazing companion for an active family that’s excited to continue his training and watch him grow. **Max is currently living in one of our amazing foster homes.
