******Please note, once you complete the initial screening, you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks, and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Dipsy, 1.5 years old, neutered male, black mouth cur and plot hound mix, 64lbs. Dipsy is in a foster home in Houston, Texas and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Dipsy is a tall, dark, handsome introvert with perfect natural eyeliner, soft soulful eyes, and fur so smooth you’ll want to pet him (please do—he loves a good brushing). He’s a mysterious-but-goofy boy who proudly digs through toy boxes like an archaeologist on a mission to select the perfect one and rolls in the grass like he’s checking into a luxury spa. Dipsy takes time to bond, but once he trusts you, he’ll wake you with gentle paw taps and his deep “Barry White” morning voice. He loves to play—sometimes a little too enthusiastically—so he appreciates help remembering to take cooldown breaks. He gets along great with dogs of all sizes, plays politely with cats when he’s bored, and does best with kids 10+ since he’s still working on toning down his excited “love pinches.” Dipsy is housebroken, crate trained, respectful around food and toys, fantastic in the car, but might steal a snack off the counter. He also loves sliding himself under your desk like a big furry foot warmer, “talks” when you come home like he’s giving you a full recap of his day, and once in a while stares dramatically into the distance as if he’s in an indie film. His ideal home has adults or older kids, ideally another dog friend, and people who enjoy walks, playtime, and letting an introvert unfold at his own pace. If you’re patient, loving, active, and appreciate a beautiful, quirky, soft-hearted boy Dipsy might be your perfect match. If you are interested in adding Dipsy into your family, please fill out the adoption application below! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***

Story
Meet Kali – A Gentle, Loyal Girl Who Just Needs a Soft Place to Land Kali’s story began in heartbreak. Found abandoned near the river, she survived on her own after suffering significant neglect and likely abuse. Despite everything she’s endured, Kali has remained one of the sweetest, funniest, most dog-friendly girls you will ever meet. She’s incredibly loving — she just needs the right people who understand that healing takes time. Health & Vetting Spayed Heartworm negative Fully vetted & on preventatives Will travel with trazodone to help keep her calm during transport Personality & TemperamentKali is truly the best dog — playful, goofy, gentle, and wonderful with other dogs. She loves to run, play, and be part of the pack. Her joy shines when she feels safe and understood. But Kali is also a sensitive soul. Because of her past, transitions and new situations make her very nervous, and she needs slow, patient introductions to new people. She does not love sudden change — it overwhelms her — and when she feels scared or trapped, she may communicate with a fear-based nip. This happened recently during a transport when she panicked with a stranger handling her. This does NOT mean she’s aggressive. It means she’s been hurt before and is trying to protect herself. With gentleness and consistency, she warms up beautifully. It took her a couple of months to trust my husband, but now she adores him — because he greeted her with treats, respected her space, and let her build confidence at her own pace. Even after months with me (since January 2025), loud noises still frighten her, so when we’re doing anything noisy outside, we simply crate her (she is incredibly clean in her crate and that’s become a safe place for her) or let her rest somewhere she feels safe. She’s not broken — she’s just healing. ‍ Trazodone SupportFor her transport, Kali will be given trazodone to help take the edge off and keep her calm. Her vet also recommends that her new family consider using it for the first few days in her new home. It’s very gentle and helps her relax during big transitions so she can settle in smoothly. Great With… Dogs — she LOVES playing and running with them Cats Respectful, calmer children Gentle, patient adults Men can be intimidating for her at first, because she was likely abused by a male figure…but with routine, kindness, and slow introductions, she adjusts wonderfully.  We used lots of treats to earn her trust and it happened quickly. Kali’s Perfect HomeKali thrives in a home full of patience, love, structure, and understanding — somewhere she won’t be rushed or overwhelmed. She would do amazing with someone who:    •    Gives her time to settle    •    Introduces new people slowly    •    Understands fear-based behaviors    •    Can offer a quiet, stable environment    •    Celebrates small victories    •    Wants a loyal, devoted companion Once she trusts you, she will be your shadow, your best friend, and your sweetest little soul. Her personality is full of warmth, playfulness, and gentle humor — she truly is a gem of a dog. If you’re someone who believes in second chances and has room in your heart for a dog who needs a soft, steady place to land, Kali is waiting for you. She will repay your patience with devotion and a love deeper than you can imagine. Her adoption fee is $400.00 which is applied toward her medical care up to adoption, microchip, foster care and transportation to New York.   We are hopeful that someone will give Kali her forever home....she is so deserving and waiting for you!   ##2417658##
