He may be shy at first, but give him a little time and he’ll show you the playful, affectionate pup hiding behind those soulful eyes.Who is Peter? Peter is an active, independent little guy who loves exploring the world around him. On walks, he can pull with excitement, but he relaxes once he gets into the rhythm. Indoors, he’s more focused—though still learning how to redirect his curiosity. With people, he can be a little hesitant at first, sometimes barking when meeting new faces, but he warms up quickly and enjoys gentle affection once he feels safe. Some of his favorite things include:- Exploring every new scent outdoors- Independent playtime with toys- Tasty treats—he’s very food motivated- Showing off his “sit” and “come” (especially when food is involved!)Because Peter is young and still learning, he sometimes has a hard time giving up toys or his food dish. But he responds well to a “trade” and has already shown he’s eager to learn with the right encouragement.Peter Would Do Best In a Home That Offers:- Kids around 12+ who understand a shy pup’s boundaries- A doggy friend could be a match (introductions on a case-by-case basis)- Patience, training, and positive reinforcement to help him gain confidence- Regular walks, playtime, and consistency to burn energy and build trustPeter may be a little unsure of new things, but he’s resilient, loving, and ready to bond with someone who believes in him. With guidance, this shy boy will grow into the loyal companion he’s meant to be.---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Peter is an energetic young dog full of curiosity. He loved exploring the shelter grounds, but it`s challenging to redirect his focus. He pulled on the leash initially, relaxing as we walked. Inside, he impro

Story
We adopted Duke as a puppy. He is a brindle southern hound mix. He has integrated well into our family, which includes my wife and I, our 2 boys (age 10 and 12), and another dog. He is intelligent, affectionate, playful, generally well-behaved, house- broken, and well loved and cared-for. He has however always been reactive to and aggressive toward guests and strangers. We recently moved to a new home. Our new home does not have a fenced yard, and is in town. We are concerned that there could be an incident that would end badly for all involved. I think Duke would do well in a home with a family that is looking for a loving, loyal companion who is instinctually protective.
