Story
Meet Marv! He has the most expressive eyes and a long list of favoritethings. He would make a great companion on long strolls where he loves tokeep his nose to the ground. He enjoys playtime and walks with otherdogs. Marv is also a fan of his people. He loves toys and keeping busywith engaging activities. Marv is looking for a home where he can relaxand learn the lay of the land. He is hoping for a family that is willingto learn about him and respond to his signals with training and positivereinforcement for good choices. Marv has lived with dogs before and coulddo so again. He should have a thoughtful introduction to a dog who shouldhave a complementary personality to Marv. We do not know if Marv has livedwith cats. He could be successful with a thoughtful introduction. We alsoare not aware of Marv living with children. He could live with children whocan participate in his training plan, practice petting consent, and cangive Mav space when he needs it.

Story
Meet Malasadas!Malasadas is a very, very special case that is going to need a very, very specific type of home.He is an 11mo Portuguese Podengo and, if we had to guess, he came from a hunting bloodline. However, he CANNOT be an outside pet. He has never been an outside pet, has always lived indoors, and would not adjust well to being an outside pet. He would do best somewhere rural, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with a big fenced in yard or acreage that he can call his own. He is very territorial and very protective of his home and has a high prey drive for wildlife (especially squirrels) which would probably also brim over into cats as well. With people? He's a lovebug. He's social, actively seeks out affection and attention, and looks to his handlers for direction. He's a great listener and he's been doing very, very well with his leash training. He's goofy and silly and snuggly, loves walks, and loves being with people. The thing is...he's okay with dogs here. He really wants to interact with them to the point that it can come off as intense and obnoxious but he isn't aggressive. He's a bouncy, barky puppy. The reactivity doesn't come into play until he feels like he has "territory" to protect. He might be fine in doggy day care. He might be fine with the occasional playdate. However, when he is on his land and feels like he has something to protect? That's when the reactivity will come into play. Malasadas needs someone with experience, with time, and with patience. He needs to be the only animal in the home. Older kids (12+) would be fine because, again, he LOVES people. He's loyal and intelligent and will snuggle up to you like a 35lb weighted blanket. He just needs a very specific set of circumstances to set him up for success. To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application. Story
Meet Figgy Pudding — 40 pounds of heart, hope, and major glow-up potential. 🐾 Figgy is a 4 year old Portuguese Podengo and came to rescue after a pretty rough start to life. When he arrived, he was underweight, overwhelmed, and convinced that literally everything was suspicious — humans included. Fast-forward one month in foster care, and while he’s still a work in progress, the transformation has already begun. Figgy is learning that homes are cozy, people can be kind, and toys? Toys are AMAZING. Speaking of toys — Figgy is an equal-opportunity toy enthusiast. Stuffies? Yes. Benebones? Absolutely. Kongs? Love them. Tennis balls? Bring it. If it squeaks, however… it will not survive. 💀 His true happy place, though, is outside. Snow, rain, sun, cold — Figgy does not discriminate. Zoomies in the yard, sniffing every scent like he’s solving a mystery, and running free are his absolute favorite things. Because of this (and because he’s fast when nervous), a securely fenced yard is a must. Figgy is crate trained, and his crate is his safe haven — he eats there, sleeps there, and retreats there when he needs a breather. He’s looking for a patient, understanding adopter who will let him move at his own pace and continue building trust slowly and gently. 🐶 Dog friends: Figgy loves other dogs, but slow, thoughtful introductions are key. When overwhelmed, he can shut down — but given time, he’s happily integrated with several resident dogs and even joins in play once he feels safe. ✨ The payoff: Once Figgy feels comfortable, he blossoms into a playful, goofy, joyful boy. He’ll cautiously approach for affection, and if you’ve truly won his heart, you may even get a few soft, sweet kisses. Those moments? Pure magic. Figgy would thrive in an active home that enjoys walks, hikes, outdoor adventures, and maybe even scent work — after plenty of decompression time, of course. He’s not a plug-and-play dog… he’s a build-a-bond kind of dog. If you’re patient, kind, and ready to help a very special dog write the happiest next chapter of his life, Figgy Pudding is waiting to trust you — and once he does, it’s everything. ❤️🐾 If you are interested in finding out more about Figgy Pudding, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Figgy Pudding is being fostered in Leominster, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
