Story
Kevin may only be two years old, but he’s mastered the fine art of being a very good boy. This 35-ish pound Podengo mix has it all: the zoomies, the charm, and the kind of manners that make strangers ask, “Wait… I could adopt THIS dog?!” ✨ A (non exhaustive list of) Why Kevin is Amazing: • Polite Everywhere: Kevin was the recent hotdog star of the Petsmart Halloween Parade! From busy dog events to quiet neighborhood strolls, Kevin keeps it classy. • Dog Socialite: He LOVES other dogs of all sizes and has been a total gentleman with every pup he’s met. • People Person: He’s been amazing with every human too (kids are still newer to him, and his energy at playtime means potential for rough and tumble). • Crate + House-trained: That’s right, he’s got the basics down pat. 🚶 Leash Life: On walks, Kevin isn’t in a rush. He’s all about the sniffari lifestyle, taking time to enjoy every smell like it’s a fine wine. He’s gotten so much better on leash—he’ll trot along happily by your side, pausing only to say, “Hang on, that bush smells fascinating.” ⚡ Play Hard, Nap Hard: Give him a fenced yard and he’ll zoom like an Olympic sprinter. Take him for a hike or a jog and he’ll keep up like a pro. But when it’s time to chill? Put on some classical music and Kevin will transform into a napping gentleman of the highest order. 🧠Head and heart: Kevin is smart! He has a very good memory for when he last saw things. Once he went outside and found some bread his foster parents threw into the yard for the birds, now he has to investigate that spot every night in case he gets lucky again! 🌭 Additionally, Kevin is an absolute 😇 at the vet and doesn’t give anybody any trouble. Plus he loves getting a nice bath and getting his nails trimmed. 🐾 The Fine Print: Kevin’s prey drive means he may chase cats - but he is not aggressive! With an active adult household, a family of elementary kids, or teens he’ll fit right in. We caution that toddlers might get knocked over because of his energetic play style. 💖 Bottom Line: Kevin is friendly, sweet, funny, and ready for his forever home. He deserves a family who loves adventure, laughter, and snuggles as much as he does. So, if you’ve been waiting for the perfect mix of polite companion and goofy best friend… Kevin’s your guy. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet Thyra, a 6-month-old Italian Greyhound–Lab mix with a gentle heart and a big need for understanding. Before coming to us, she had never left her home, so the world is still very new and overwhelming to her. Despite that, she has shown us just how sweet, affectionate, and loving she can be with the adults she trusts. Thyra is scared of children and would be most comfortable in an adult-only home. She’s tolerant around other dogs but doesn’t really enjoy their company, so she may thrive as an only dog—or with a calm dog who won’t mind her preference for space. Her favorite thing in the world is snuggling, and once she feels safe, she’ll happily curl up with you for nap time and quiet companionship. Because she missed out on early socialization, Thyra is still learning how to navigate new environments and experiences. She’ll need patient adopters committed to helping her build confidence through gentle, positive behavior modification. With consistency, support, and a calm home, Thyra will blossom into the devoted, cuddly companion she’s meant to be. Ready to Adopt? Story
Frosty visited NEVCCC for a bit before coming to TJO to finish healing; he was unable to control his body temperature and could only eat very small portions so as to not get sick. Frosty loves attention from humans, dislikes other dogs, and can be a loud persistent barker (so he probably would not do well in an apartment.) This little snowman is looking for a home where he can be the sole object of affection and attention.OTHER PETS: Frosty is reactive to other dogs, he'll bark and lunge to create distance from them, he will be adopted as an only pet. [Should be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Frosty's best fit would be with someone who understands and respects the necessity of ensuring his care plan is followed while he continues convalescing. Experience with positive reinforcement and a medically fragile dog would be ideal. [Some Experience]KIDS: Frosty is comfortable with handling, has not exhibited resource guarding while at TJO, and becomes playful in a safe environment. Frosty would likely get along with most humans and should meet any minor humans he would be living with prior to adoption. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Frosty has been increasingly active as his health improves so may even end up having a higher energy level than we expected. He would do best with a combination of walks and play sessions that keep him engaged and active as he needs - regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Frosty is currently on a strict re-feeding plan and may need further care as he continues to recover. He was also found to have corneal ulcers. Frosty's best match would be someone that already has an established relationship with a primary veterinarian. [Intensive]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Frosty bond with his new owner as well as help him learn new skills and possibly some tricks. He may need extra patience as he begins his journey and slowly transitions to a new home. [Moderate] GROOMING: [Minimal] December 8, 2025, 3:15 pm
