Story
Fallon came to us after retiring from hunting. He loves other dogs, and we were told he is good with children. He is a shy pup, but much more confident outside. He is not housebroken because he has never lived in a home, but our experience with dogs like him is that they learn very quickly as long as they are taken outside a lot and praised when they go to the bathroom. Podengos are known for being intelligent, playful, and loyal dogs, but can have an independent streak. Fallon will be neutered and updated on his vaccines on January 15th, and will be ready for adoption after that. We are accepting applications for him now. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our dog adoption application here: http://medfieldshelter.com/adopt. Our adoption fee for dogs ages 7 months to 7 years is $450. Dogs 8 years and up are $250. Every dog we place is vaccinated, wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash. With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both. All adoption meetings are by appointment only as we only have two employees. Our manager or one of our volunteers will be happy to set up an appointment for you to come meet the pets, but please fill out the adoption application first.

They are not comfortable with men and cannot live with children. A calm adult female only home is required. They are a known flight risk and will only be placed in a home with a secure, physically fenced yard. No exceptions. Doors, gates, and leashes must be handled carefully at all times. They are also a bite risk. They will bite if pushed past their comfort level or handled incorrectly. They need an experienced, confident adopter who understands small dog behavior, respects boundaries, and is committed to management over fixing. This placement is about safety and stability, not turning them into lap dogs. Please only apply if your application clearly states that you meet all of these criteria. Russell is a 7-year-old small mixed-breed dog who is very affectionate with adults and enjoys a calm, predictable home environment. He is healthy, neutered, crate trained, and fully housebroken. We are looking for a child-free home with experienced dog handlers who understand fear-based reactivity and can manage his triggers safely. Russell has had a bite incident involving a child and recently snapped at our toddler, which is why our home is no longer safe for him. In the right environment with adults only, we believe he can thrive and feel secure.
