Story
Meet Malasadas!Malasadas is a very, very special case that is going to need a very, very specific type of home.He is an 15mo Portuguese Podengo and, if we had to guess, he came from a hunting bloodline. However, he CANNOT be an outside pet. He has never been an outside pet, has always lived indoors, and would not adjust well to being an outside pet. He would do best somewhere rural, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with a big fenced in yard or acreage that he can call his own. He is very territorial and very protective of his home and has a high prey drive for wildlife (especially squirrels) which would probably also brim over into cats as well. With people? He's a lovebug. He's social, actively seeks out affection and attention, and looks to his handlers for direction. He's a great listener and he's been doing very, very well with his leash training. He's goofy and silly and snuggly, loves walks, and loves being with people. The thing is...he's okay with dogs here. He really wants to interact with them to the point that it can come off as intense and obnoxious but he isn't aggressive. He's a bouncy, barky puppy. The reactivity doesn't come into play until he feels like he has "territory" to protect. He might be fine in doggy day care. He might be fine with the occasional playdate. However, when he is on his land and feels like he has something to protect? That's when the reactivity will come into play. Malasadas needs someone with experience, with time, and with patience. He needs to be the only animal in the home. Older kids (12+) would be fine because, again, he LOVES people. He's loyal and intelligent and will snuggle up to you like a 35lb weighted blanket. He just needs a very specific set of circumstances to set him up for success. To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application. Once complete, you can email it to us at fpas1@foreverpaws.com.

Story
Meet Sadie Some dogs ask for your attention right away. Sadie quietly hopes you'll notice her. Sadie is a very shy, skittish girl who can be nervous around new people and unfamiliar situations. Shelter life has been overwhelming for her, but underneath that timid exterior is an incredibly sweet soul just waiting to feel safe. Once Sadie begins to trust you, you'll see her gentle personality shine. She just needs someone who understands that love isn't always instant—sometimes it's built one patient day at a time. One of the sweetest things about Sadie is watching her with her shelter best friend, Marty. She absolutely loves playing with him, and seeing her relax around another dog reminds everyone just how much joy is waiting beneath her shy exterior. A confident canine companion in her future home might even help Sadie continue to blossom. Sadie is looking for a calm, patient, loving home where she can go at her own pace and finally feel safe. If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are the ones you earn, Sadie may be the perfect match. Watching a frightened dog slowly transform into a confident, happy companion is one of life's greatest gifts. Could you be the person to give Sadie that chance? Please share Sadie's story. Her forever family may be just one share away. If interested call Taunton Animal Shelter at 508-822-1463 and ask for Rob Shelter Manager

Story
Vixen's adoption fee is sponsored! Vixen is a 2 year old Podengo who spent her life up until March 2026 outside in Southeastern MA. She was used for rabbit hunting but her owner realized that he was a little overwhelmed with the amount of dogs so he surrendered a few of them to us. She is now ready for an adoptive or foster home! She is crate trained and house trained. She is good with cats, dogs and children! She can be a little nervous around fast moving and loud people and kids, so older children would be best. Her ideal home would be on the quieter side. For more info on fostering her or adopting, email us or fill out an application under Adopt at unfurget.org unfurget@gmail.com We supply their crate, food, toys, bed, walking gear etc. so there isn't anything you'd need to purchase!

Story
Foster Needed: We need a foster before we can take this dog in from the outdoor situation that she is living in. Sally is an 8-year-old Podengo, 30 lbs, who has spent her life outdoors and was used for rabbit hunting in Southeastern MA. She is ready to be surrendered by her owner, but we need a foster home for her to go to. If you're able to commit to 2 weeks, please visit our website at unfurget.org and check out the Foster section. We provide everything you'll need. We will give you a crate as well as diapers so that while she is learning how to be in a house, she doesn't make any messes. You'd have to be available to crate her overnight and when you're not home. When you are home during the day, she should go outside to the bathroom every 2–3 hours for a pee break. She usually catches on pretty quickly! Unfurget.org under Adopt for more info!

Story
We finally have Gemma, an 8-month-old Podengo, with us. She is a sweet, poor thing who is looking for a foster or adoptive home. Because she spent her life inside a rabbit-like hutch, she has splayed paws and legs; however, she gets around just fine and will likely grow to be around 35 lbs. This poor girl was never socialized much with people and doesn't have the happy-go-lucky puppy spirit you would expect. She is so afraid that she hasn't wagged her tail just yet. She has no fear aggression—she is just horrified. Fortunately, she gets along well with cats and dogs and will do fine with respectful children. She is looking for a foster or adoptive home that can work with her on leash walking, house training, and socialization in general. We will provide you with all of the supplies, training, and support you will need. If you are interested in fostering or adopting, you can fill out the application under the "Adopt" tab at unfurget.org.

Story
Reuben is a loving, silly, and adorable little dog. His underbite and head tilt are devastatingly cute. He shakes his whole body when greeting new people and trots along when enjoying his walks. He has a bladder of steel and has never been destructive in our home. He is non-reactive to other dogs on walks and infrequently barks. We are rehoming Reuben because we have a young child with whom Reuben cannot live safely. Moreover, Reuben is clearly not as happy with us as he once was and deserves a loving home. Reuben is blind and has separation anxiety and epilepsy. He has bitten three people (in every case the biting was to do with his blindness and he growled before biting). His behavioral problems have improved significantly since we've had him and his medical problems are well-managed. We are confident he would make someone an excellent companion. If you are interested in learning more, reach out! We hope to be as transparent as possible to ensure that his next home is his last.

Story
Meet Bailey! Bailey is the sweetest, chunkiest, and most perfect chihuahua and if you don't agree then please move on because Bailey's obviously out of your league. Bailey loves her people very much and all you really have to do to be considered "her people" is give her a little time and few little bites of chicken nuggets. Bailey is nervous around strangers, "social butterfly" isn't her vibe and she tends to be relate more to a deeply bonded and loyal parrot. Yes, she will occasionally sit on your shoulder. Yes, she will give people dirty looks if they consider petting her before paying the appropriate chicken nuggie bribery. And, yes, she will likely outlive you and move down the family tree as an immortal old chihuahua heirloom. But, unlike a parrot, she will not squawk and scream at all hours of the day and she won't tear your household items apart the second you slack on enrichment. Bailey would do best in a teens+ family with people who are willing to give her the time (and snacks) needed to help her feel safe and cherished. She has lived with small dogs before but has no experience with larger dogs or cats. If you agree that Bailey is perfect - and how couldn't you? - then please complete an adopter's profile at parl.org and come in during our open hours to meet her!

Story
Meet Tum Tum — a low-maintenance smaller dog who is looking for a chauffeur/forever family to drive him around town and help write the next chapter of his life: “Driving Mr. Tummy.” While some dogs are fixated on their ball or their daily walk, Tum Tum’s all-consuming obsession is the car. He would sit in the passenger seat all day long if he could.  Tum Tum is approximately three years old, has only three legs, and is the perfect small to medium size at just 33 lbs. He is a mix of 19 different breeds according to his breed test — an equal mix of small and large breeds. Chihuahua (15 percent) and Husky (14 percent) were the top two breeds. He’s potty trained, crate trained and not destructive. He gets along with other dogs, enjoys the company of children and is completely neutral around cats. Tum Tum can be leery of men he does not know, but he loves his foster dad. It’s important that any man in the home wants to spend time with Tum Tum to develop a good relationship.  Tum Tum is calm and well-behaved when he’s on a leash, but short walks are more his speed. Tum broke his front leg as a younger dog. Sadly it was never properly fixed, and it had to be amputated. Tum Tum is looking for a home with a fenced yard so he can enjoy sitting outside. He doesn’t need a super active family, just someone who likes to take him on car rides occasionally. He does seem to do better with another dog in the home, but depending on the situation, he could be fine as an only dog. Please apply today if you can give Tum Tum his perfect forever home. Car rides are a must!
