Story
Dean is a young Pointer/Hound mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love. At approximately 1 year old, he’s still very much a puppy at heart—curious, playful, and always ready for his next adventure. Dean is an affectionate boy who never misses an opportunity for cuddles. If you're looking for a dog who believes there’s no such thing as being too close, Dean is your guy. He loves climbing into laps, handing out kisses, and soaking up belly rubs whenever he can. After playtime, you'll often find him curled up beside his favorite people or stretched out dramatically on the couch, completely content. Like many young dogs, Dean is still learning the ropes. He is currently working on basic manners, including commands like sit and nice, and he responds well to positive reinforcement, treats, and consistency. He's smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning new things. Dean absolutely loves other dogs and thrives on canine companionship. Whether he's wrestling with a playmate, following a friend on an adventure, or snuggling up for a nap, he enjoys having a dog buddy around. Cats are still an unknown; while Dean’s intentions seem playful, his enthusiasm may be a bit overwhelming for more laid-back feline friends. Because of his youthful energy and playful spirit, Dean would do best in an active home that can provide regular exercise, continued training, structure, and plenty of affection. In return, he will reward his family with endless entertainment, unwavering loyalty, and more love than you could imagine. If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing, keep you active, and always be ready for a cuddle, Dean may be the perfect addition to your family. If you're interested in adopting/meeting this pup, please complete our online adoption application, available here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application. Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $250 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Story
Apollo is a sweet boy who is a 2 year old Staffy Mix. He is a big boy weighing close to 90 pounds! Car Rides and Walks are two of his favorite things to do. Apollo has had quite a bit of training, walks very well on a leash, he is house trained, and is now looking for his forever family. Are you looking for a walking buddy or just someone to snuggle up on the couch with you, then fill out an application so you can meet him. Our adoption process is usually quick, but may take up to two weeks. When you find an animal you are interested in, we ask that you fill out an application as a first step so we can determine if your family is a good fit for the animal. If you are, then we will contact you to arrange a time for you and your family to meet the animal so you can decide if it is a good fit. If you currently have dogs, we require that the dogs be present at the meeting to make sure it's a good fit all around. Once compatibility is determined, we move on to the paperwork and finalize the adoption. If the meet is not a good fit, we will keep your application on file for 6 months and we will gladly consider your family for another dog. After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH! representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart – Bloomington, IL: Park in the PetSmart (1606 E. Empire St.) Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH! representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at the Cat’s Meow Cafe: Navigate to PetSmart, park in the parking lot and enter the store. Locate a PCH! Representative at our adoption table and let them know you are picking up a Cat Cafe Cat. You will sign your final contract with your counselor and snap a picture of the completed screen. Head to the Cat’s Meow Cafe at 507 N. Hershey Rd and provide them with the snapshot of your final contract. They will get your cat and take a “Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. PCH! supports a 30-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we cannot provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities!
