Story
Meet Dean!  Dean is an almost 1 yr old Pointer/hound mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He’s very much still a puppy at heart — energetic, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. Dean is currently working on basic manners like sit and “nice,” and he’s learning quickly with treats and consistency. One of Dean’s absolute favorite things in the world is cuddling. If you’re hoping for personal space during movie night… Dean may not be your guy . He will happily climb into your lap, shower you with kisses, and then flop over for belly rubs, channeling some serious Puss in Boots puppy-eyes energy. When he’s done loving on you, he’ll settle in close by — or sprawl out dramatically on the couch or bed. Dean is doing well with potty training and will use puppy pads and go outside. He does get very excited when greeting his people and may have an excited pee, so quick trips outside right after greetings work best for him. He’s still learning how to manage big feelings, but he’s trying! True to his puppy status, Dean is a chewer. Toys, kid items, and anything left within reach are fair game, so supervision and plenty of appropriate chew toys are important. He’s also very curious — including about things he probably shouldn’t be interested in — so a tidy home and guidance will help set him up for success. Dean loves other dogs and enjoys playing and cuddling with them. If one dog goes on an adventure, Dean will happily tag along — and come back together. Cats are still a question mark; he wants to play, but may be a bit much for cats who prefer lounging and being admired from a distance. Dean would thrive in an active home that can provide exercise, structure, training, and lots of affection. In return, you’ll get a hilarious, loving, loyal companion who believes there’s no such thing as too much togetherness. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining pup who will keep you laughing and loved, Dean may be your perfect match   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. Story
Meet Lacey, a stunning young dog as beautiful as freshly fallen snow. She is approximately a year and a half old and may be a pointer mix. Lacey is full of joyful energy and absolutely adores her toys, playtime with her foster brother, and spending time outdoors exploring the yard. Because she loves being outside and staying active, a securely fenced yard is a must, with a six-foot fence required. Lacey is a big fan of treats, enjoys the company of kids, and balances her playful side with a love for snuggling. She is both crate trained and house trained, making her a wonderful companion for a family ready to give her the space, structure, and affection she thrives on. The adoption fee of $300 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Story
Click here for Mae's Facebook Album August 2025: I was contacted about 2 Pointers that were in need of help in the Benton, Illinois area. I was told they were saved from being killed by a hunting preserve. The whole story is rather vague and I heard there were actually 4 dogs. Mae is a sweet Lemon Pointer about 3-5 years old. She's been bred A LOT, and is a typically loving dog with people. Mae has some dental issues that will need to be addressed when she is spayed. She also has an Umbilical hernia that can also be repaired at that time. Her ears were full of brown crud and a little infected- but she is doing great now. We have also switched her to a lamb based diet now. Mae did test positive for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and she is doing well with antibiotic treatment that is helping her underlying anemia. No doubt she is feeling a lot better! If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
Click here for Elvis's Facebook Album March 18: Elvis' dental and neuter are done. He did well, lost 4 teeth and we are doing a biopsy on his potential scrotal tumor. What a sweet boy, that just needed some TLC. With heartworm slow kill, we'll test at 8 months and see where he is at, hopefully he'll be negative by then, but oftentimes it takes longer. We are taking our time with him especially since he is also infected with Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Glad he came to IBR otherwise that would have been missed. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for him in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Heartworm slow kill treatment is super easy and so much easier on the dogs we rescue. Our adoption or foster app can be found at www.helpibr.org March 2025: Elvis was left outside the city jail in a cage in Tompkinsville, KY a few weeks ago. The jail is sometimes used as the local humane society. He was in terrible shape, extremely thin and frightened. We worked for a few weeks to line up transport and in that time it was discovered that Elvis was infected with heartworms and he had a sore on his testicles. The great folks in Kentucky got his vaccinations done and also got him started on heartworm slow kill. In between some nasty weather, and some plane electrical problems, Elvis was driven to Louisville, KY and then flown to the Chicago suburbs by Captain David Tan. His latest exam and bloodwork shows that Elvis is also fighting 3 tick borne diseases- Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. We got a closer look at his teeth- which were in terrible shape and Elvis also has an enlarged testicle besides a cyst. This poor dog has suffered some terrible neglect but while we are in the search for a longer term foster, he is being cared for and loved on by our good friends at Tail Gate for Dogs in Elmhurst. As Dr. Rimkunas didn't rule out testicular cancer, I have his neuter and dental set up for March 18th and we could really use some donations to help with his ongoing medical care. We have Paypal at www.illinoisbirddogrescue.org, VENMO with @illinoisbirddogrescue and ZELLE with info@illinoisbirddogrescue.org If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application.
