Story
Hi, I`m Lupe! I`m a 3-year-old Pointer mix who is ready to find my forever home! My personality is sweet, playful, loyal, and friendly. I love people and all the love they have to give! My favorite things to do are spending time with my favorite people, playing with my toys, laying in the sun, and exploring outside during a nice long walk. I love to follow my nose! My new home can have other dogs, and I prefer ones that aren`t too playful. I can`t live with cats. If you`ve been looking for someone to go with you on all your adventures, apply to meet me today! Special Requirements: No cats

Story
Hi, I'm Floyd! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email info@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 0. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions! Can't wait to meet you and start our adventure together! All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.

Story
Lulu is a Pointer (English) and not a German Shorthaired Pointer-- they are similar but different. I add GSP to give our Pointers a little more exposure. Click here for Lulu's Facebook Recovery Album April 13, 2025: Look how great little Miss Lulu is looking 2 + months into IBR's program. She's filled out so nicely but she loves to eat!! Lulu is ready to find her foster to adopt home in the Chicago area as she still needs her spay in June. Her teeth look great and she no longer needs a dental. She really is a silly little bouncy Pointer. March 2, 2025: Lulu has been doing well in foster care, eating well, living indoors and wearing 1 or 2 coats when she goes outside. She's also made a few doggie friends. Next step is her spay in a few weeks; we wanted to put a few more pounds on her and also treat her Rocky Mountain spotted fever a little bit longer prior to any surgery. She loves her cage as that is her safe place and while she doesn't have a lot of freedom in the house, house-training is going pretty well. The perfect home for Lulu would have a confident easy going dog buddy and I'm not sure about small kids. She is a little 24lb pocket Pointer that is so happy to be off the chain she was on in Texas and has the cutest little personality to match. She is such a sweet little bouncy dog and we hope we can find her the bestest family. February 2025: In early February I got a voice mail from a man that was desperate to help a little Pointer he befriended on some hunting grounds in West Texas. Kevin is a volunteer with Above and Beyond English Setter rescue and was on vacation hunting over his adopted English Setter when he met a little Pointer that was with a string of dogs. He learned that her owner just wanted to give her away as he had too many, he didn't hunt over her, etc and Kevin knew she didn't have a happy life. While A&BESR couldn't bring her into their program, they did have my phone number and once Kevin and I connected, we came up with a plan. After a bit of drama with the owner, Kevin did take ownership of little "Lulu" our name as she didn't have one, and Kevin brought her back to Georgia where we made arrangements to have her be boarded and her medical care up to date. She flew into the Chicago area with the help of 2 Pilots N Paws volunteers. Lulu weighed in at 21lbs upon arrival to the vet-- hence the term "Pocket Pointer" a little peanut you can put in your pocket. While in boarding for a week, she gained a pound. Thankfully she is heartworm negative. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for her in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Story
Click here for Elvis's Facebook Album March 18: Elvis' dental and neuter are done. He did well, lost 4 teeth and we are doing a biopsy on his potential scrotal tumor. What a sweet boy, that just needed some TLC. With heartworm slow kill, we'll test at 8 months and see where he is at, hopefully he'll be negative by then, but oftentimes it takes longer. We are taking our time with him especially since he is also infected with Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Glad he came to IBR otherwise that would have been missed. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for him in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Heartworm slow kill treatment is super easy and so much easier on the dogs we rescue. Our adoption or foster app can be found at www.helpibr.org March 2025: Elvis was left outside the city jail in a cage in Tompkinsville, KY a few weeks ago. The jail is sometimes used as the local humane society. He was in terrible shape, extremely thin and frightened. We worked for a few weeks to line up transport and in that time it was discovered that Elvis was infected with heartworms and he had a sore on his testicles. The great folks in Kentucky got his vaccinations done and also got him started on heartworm slow kill. In between some nasty weather, and some plane electrical problems, Elvis was driven to Louisville, KY and then flown to the Chicago suburbs by Captain David Tan. His latest exam and bloodwork shows that Elvis is also fighting 3 tick borne diseases- Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. We got a closer look at his teeth- which were in terrible shape and Elvis also has an enlarged testicle besides a cyst. This poor dog has suffered some terrible neglect but while we are in the search for a longer term foster, he is being cared for and loved on by our good friends at Tail Gate for Dogs in Elmhurst. As Dr. Rimkunas didn't rule out testicular cancer, I have his neuter and dental set up for March 18th and we could really use some donations to help with his ongoing medical care. We have Paypal at www.illinoisbirddogrescue.org, VENMO with @illinoisbirddogrescue and ZELLE with info@illinoisbirddogrescue.org If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application.
