Story
Hawk is a Pointer mix male who was born 8/28/18. He was adopted from us as a pup and is now looking for a new home as he is not doing well in his current home environment. He is currently living with his owners to avoid being returned to a kennel environment. We will be screening applicants for his owners in order to hopefully facilitate a successful adoption! His owners say the following about him... "Hawk is an intelligent athlete. His speed and aligity is matched by his willingness to please. He'll play fetch for hours and make running around look easy! He is a true introvert-enjoys people but sometimes people can be overwhelming and will need a soft bed to relax in while company is over. When given time to warm up, he'll paw you for head scratches and nudge you for cuddles. He's curious in nature and is a great problem solver. Although he isn't allowed on the furniture, he loves to curl up next to you but also enjoys a playful wrestling match. Sunbathing is his jam but don't ask him to cool off in the pool or go out in the rain. He needs an owner who can help protect his boundaries when he is feeling insecure and unsure. The perfect owner will be willing to reinforce the 2+ years of professional training. He is very food driven and loves to please. He heals, comes when called and stays in place and waits when told. Hawk is crate and house-trained and is trustworthy to be out in the house uncrated in his current environment. He plays well with the dog in his current home, and those in daycare, BUT is leash and barrier reactive to other dogs so will not do well through a fence or on leash. With the right intro and dog personality match he could successfully live with other dogs. He has never lived with cats but will chase small animals so no cats would be best. He lives with small children currently but would really like an adult only (14+) home." Please email availablepets@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting Hawk and giving him the home he needs!

Story
Hi, I’m Lexi! I have the most loving eyes and cutest freckles on my ears. I had a rough start to life and the rescue doesn’t know much about my past. I ended up in a very rural shelter in NC with a litter of puppies who unfortunately all passed in the shelter before I was rescued. I am house trained and crate trained. I’m not destructive when left alone but I do like to have a safe space to retreat to. I love to lounge on the top of a couch, just like a cat! I walk well on leash and know some basic commands. I am food motivated and love toys! My ideal family would have a fenced yard and at least one other dog. I love to play with other dogs and I get along with every dog I have ever met! I would not do well in a home with younger kids as I am timid and they would scare me. I can be slow to warm up to strangers because of my past, but I am a very affectionate and silly girl with my trusted people. I am not aggressive. I just need a patient owner who will give me time to settle in. I am currently being fostered in the Pittsburgh area, but I can be transported to an approved adopter. I hope to meet you soon!

Story
Hi, I'm Valentino. Thanks for taking a look at me!I know my cute face is irresistible, but remember that I will take up lots of your time and attention while I grow into an awesome adult dog.Socialization, training (including house training), and exercise are just a few of the things I will look to you for.Chewing, teething, and learning what is Okay and not Okay to put in my mouth are all part of the puppy experience. And, be prepared for the time and money for frequent trips to the vet during the first few months so I can get up to date on my boosters and vaccines. But most of all, be prepared for all of the LOVE, puppy kisses, and joy I will bring into your life.If you are up for the challenge and the fun, stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email bloomingdale@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 90, and the staff will be happy to help you.Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Story
Click here for Ruth's Facebook Album ***NEW PICTURES ADDED!!*** 3-2023: Ruthie has been waiting a long time for the perfect forever home. She has grown up to be a gorgeous Pointer. I also listed her under the prefix Vizsla, because a Vizsla enthusiast would appreciate her good looks, but Ruthie is 100% American Field Bred "English" Pointer.. Ruthie is also a little more on the emotional side similar to her Continental cousins. Of leash, that's where the comparisons end. While Vizslas are closer working hunting companions, Ruthie has quite a bit of her field breeding in her and the last time we went to the fenced in dog park- she ran out 200 and 400 yards or more. These dogs were actually bred to compete in horseback field trials, but Ruthie would do best being adopted by an active family that can let her run at the dog park occasionally or if there is a runner looking for a dog with endless energy and endurance, Ruthie would be well suited for that. She is cage and house trained and ideally her perfect home would also have a young playful companion for her-- but not one she can push around. She needs to know her boundaries. Ruthie would also benefit from a structured obedience class. She is cuddily and has slept in bed with her foster parents the last 8 months. She has counter cruised in the past so she will also need to know what behavior is acceptable in the home. With a good quota of exercise everyday, she is going to make the best pet and companion. A fenced in yard is non- negotiable and NO HUNTING HOMES!!! 8-7-2022: Here's our new baby lemon Pointer-- Baby Ruth. She is one of many Pointers dumped by a breeder in Trenton, TN to the local shelter in Gibson County. She is about 7 months old and is around 35lbs. She is very thin and her foster family is feeding her 3 times a day to try and help her gain much needed weight. We are also worming her and also treating her with antibiotics for suspected tick borne disease. While Ruth is a playful, confident puppy, we are only looking for a pet foster to adopt home in the Chicago area. Potential adopters also need to have a safe traditional fenced in yard. She would also benefit in a home with a playful doggie companion. She is cat safe. Ruth was going to be killed in the over crowded shelter she was in and we are grateful to Pilot Bob for helping fly her in to the Chicago suburbs on July 25th. Pointers are the best dogs-- have so much joy and personality and we saved this little baby in time before she suffered from shelter life or any training abuse.
