Story
Meet Dottie! If you're looking for a loyal, easygoing companion with the perfect balance of independence and affection, Dottie may be your dream dog! Dottie is a beautiful black-and-white mixed-breed girl, estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old. She has fully embraced the good life beyond puppyhood and is happiest spending her days lounging around the house, soaking up sunshine, and keeping her people company. This sweet girl is incredibly well-mannered. She is house trained, non-destructive, and trustworthy when left home alone. Whether she's relaxing on one of her favorite beds, watching you cook in the kitchen, or curled up on the couch beside you, Dottie is content simply being near her family. At night, she happily sleeps in bed with her foster and stays there all night long. Dottie currently lives with young children and a cat and has been wonderful with both. She is gentle, calm, and incredibly patient with kids, and she couldn't care less about the family cat. She also enjoys meeting new people and greets both familiar faces and strangers with a friendly attitude. One of Dottie's most adorable quirks is her famous "smile." When she's excited to see you, she'll flash a big grin and bounce into the air with happiness! It's impossible not to smile back. While Dottie enjoys exploring and sniffing around outside, she's not a high-energy dog who needs constant activity. A fenced yard where she can wander, sunbathe, and investigate interesting smells would be ideal. She also enjoys playing with her toys indoors and joining the kids outside while they play before settling down in a sunny spot to relax. Dottie knows her crate and does well during the day if needed, but she's also proven herself trustworthy with free rein of the house. She's currently working on learning "sit" and continues to impress her foster family with how adaptable and eager to please she is. Her foster describes her as "very lovable, calm, extremely gentle, and a GREAT dog." The thing they'll miss most? Her loving, chill personality and the joy she brings simply by being around. If you're searching for a sweet, low-maintenance best friend who will make you feel loved every day, Dottie is ready to steal your heart. The adoption fee for Dottie is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Dottie please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.

Story
Meet Dean!  Dean is a 1-year-old Pointer/hound mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He’s very much still a puppy at heart — energetic, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. Dean is currently working on basic manners like sit and “nice,” and he’s learning quickly with treats and consistency. One of Dean’s absolute favorite things in the world is cuddling. If you’re hoping for personal space during movie night… Dean may not be your guy. He will happily climb into your lap, shower you with kisses, and then flop over for belly rubs, channeling some serious Puss in Boots puppy-eyes energy. When he’s done loving on you, he’ll settle in close by — or sprawl out dramatically on the couch or bed. A tidy house and supervision will help set Dean up for success since anything left within reach is fair game.  Dean loves other dogs and enjoys playing and cuddling with them. If one dog goes on an adventure, Dean will happily tag along — and come back together. Cats are still a question mark; he wants to play, but may be a bit much for cats who prefer lounging and being admired from a distance. Dean would thrive in an active home that can provide exercise, structure, training, and lots of affection. In return, you’ll get a hilarious, loving, loyal companion who believes there’s no such thing as too much togetherness. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining pup who will keep you laughing and loved, Dean may be your perfect match   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $250 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 10, 2026, 11:43 am

Story
Perry is one of those dogs who just makes everything more fun. With his white coat, playful black spots, and soulful eyes, he’s as handsome as they come! He absolutely loves going for walks, especially the kind where he gets to stop and sniff all the interesting things along the way. He’s got a curious nose and a big appreciation for the little things in life. If you're someone who enjoys a good, slow stroll with a happy four-legged companion, Perry will be right there with you. He’s also super food motivated. Treats are the key to his heart, and he’ll do just about anything for a tasty snack. That makes him a fun dog to train and a great match for someone who enjoys working on tricks or building a strong bond through positive reinforcement. Weight: 60 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes! Up to date on vaccines: Yes! Microchipped: Yes! Housebroken: Yes! They will potty outside every time or nearly every time (rarely has accidents). Crate-trained: Unknown! They have never been crated while in foster care. Leash behavior: Working on it! They are still learning what the leash is all about and may have some behaviors that will require continued positive reinforcement training. Dog sociability: They don't like them! They do not get along with other dogs and need to be the only dog in the home. Cat sociability: They do not do well with cats! They will chase, bite, attack, or otherwise harm or frighten cats. Kid sociability: No kids, please! They are afraid of kids or reactive toward them, or they have a history of behaviors that make them incompatible with children. Likes: Snackies, walkies, hanging at home with his people Dislikes: Space invaders If you’d like to meet Perry, please fill out an adoption application at animalcareleague.org/adoptions and send us an email at adoption@animalcareleague.org!

Story
Click here for Elvis's Facebook Album April 2026: Well it's been a year since I posted an update on precious Bubba (formerly Elvis) but I am happy to report that he is now heartworm negative and doing GREAT!! He is the happiest Pointer and loving life in foster care. Unfortunately he does have an incontinence problem perhaps due to his neuter and tumor surgery last year. Kinda of a bummer, but I just put a belly band around him indoors as he does love to snuggle on the couch. Bubba is the epitome of what we love in our English Pointers- loving, silly, goofy, playful and just a joy to be around. I did DNA test him and Wisdom Panel thought he was more German Shorthaired Pointer, but we suspect that they don't have a lot of field bred Pointer DNA in their program as he really looks more like a field bred "English" Pointer. He is also calmer than a typical GSP and doesn't need to play fetch constantly. He does like pulling toys out of the kiddie poop however. Bubba is a super special dog and he will need a super special adopter. March 18 2025: Elvis' dental and neuter are done. He did well, lost 4 teeth and we are doing a biopsy on his potential scrotal tumor. What a sweet boy, that just needed some TLC. With heartworm slow kill, we'll test at 8 months and see where he is at, hopefully he'll be negative by then, but oftentimes it takes longer. We are taking our time with him especially since he is also infected with Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Glad he came to IBR otherwise that would have been missed. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for him in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Heartworm slow kill treatment is super easy and so much easier on the dogs we rescue. Our adoption or foster app can be found at www.helpibr.org March 2025: Elvis was left outside the city jail in a cage in Tompkinsville, KY a few weeks ago. The jail is sometimes used as the local humane society. He was in terrible shape, extremely thin and frightened. We worked for a few weeks to line up transport and in that time it was discovered that Elvis was infected with heartworms and he had a sore on his testicles. The great folks in Kentucky got his vaccinations done and also got him started on heartworm slow kill. In between some nasty weather, and some plane electrical problems, Elvis was driven to Louisville, KY and then flown to the Chicago suburbs by Captain David Tan. His latest exam and bloodwork shows that Elvis is also fighting 3 tick borne diseases- Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. We got a closer look at his teeth- which were in terrible shape and Elvis also has an enlarged testicle besides a cyst. This poor dog has suffered some terrible neglect but while we are in the search for a longer term foster, he is being cared for and loved on by our good friends at Tail Gate for Dogs in Elmhurst. As Dr. Rimkunas didn't rule out testicular cancer, I have his neuter and dental set up for March 18th and we could really use some donations to help with his ongoing medical care.
