Story
A volunteer was driving in Westminster and came across a cardboard box sitting underneath a parked truck with three kittens inside. A concerned neighbor had been feeding the kittens for a few weeks while trying to find them somewhere to go with no luck. He said the mother cat had been hit by a car a couple weeks earlier, and her kittens were left. All three kittens were out in the freezing, cold rain trying to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, this compassionate neighbor had too many animals to adopt them himself. Poly is a friendly and affectionate cat. He loves people, enjoys pets and cuddles. Poly is also unique in that all four of his paws are polydactyl. This means Poly has six or more toes on each paw, rather than the normal five toes. Cats with polydactyl paws have better balance because they have wider, larger paws allowing them to hunt and climb more efficiently. Another interesting item about polydactyl cats is that they were a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. Mr. Hemingway received a polydactyl feline from a ship’s captain by the name of Snow Ball and subsequently developed a true love for multi-toed cats. His home in Key West, Florida was transformed into a museum after this death and about half of the cats that reside there are polydactyl. FHV-1 is very common, in fact almost all cats are exposed to FHV-1 as kittens, either by their mother or by another cat. Up to 80% of cats develop a hidden (referred to as dormant or latent) infection and become carries of FHV-1 for life. In many cats, this causes no problems. But sometimes feline herpes returns occasionally throughout the cat's life, especially in times of illness or stress. Just as some people get repeated Herpes cold sores, some cats will repeatedly get corneal (eye) ulcers or have chronic (long term) sneezing or nasal congestion. Our vet believes he may grow out of the symptoms especially if he is taken out of the high stress shelter environment. Poly is a special boy that really deserves a home! He’d love it even more if his brother Marco (his snuggle buddy) could come along! Please apply to adopt Poly at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Poly and get to know him a bit. Adoption donation includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. Applications require a veterinary reference and home visit. We adopt to residents of Orange County, CA and surrounding areas. Please note: For families with children, we require children to be 10 years of age or older, although exceptions are made depending on the circumstances. For more information on our adoption policies visit our website at www.AALOC.org or contact us by e-mail at aaloc@aaloc.org.

Story
Toes is a unique and charming orange tabby with extra toes and an extra-special heart. As a true polydactyl (also known as a Hemingway cat) he’s got oversized paws and an endearing, gentle nature to match. Toes was rescued from a large cat colony in Costa Mesa where he learned to be cautious but kind, and now he’s adjusting to indoor life in foster care. He’s still shy and needs time to build trust, but Toes has been making slow, steady progress in his foster home. He especially enjoys the company of other cats and would thrive in a home with a confident, friendly feline companion who can show him the ropes and help him feel safe. While he currently lives with French Fry , a female brown tabby who is another shy cat, we believe Toes would do better when paired with a more outgoing buddy to help bring out his playful, affectionate side. Toes could be adopted with French Fry as long as the adopter knows they will have to work on socializing them daily and being patient, because they will come around with time. Toes is looking for a patient, cat-savvy adopter who understands that the best relationships are built slowly and lovingly. With a gentle hand and a feline friend by his side, Toes is sure to bloom.

Story
Chata is a slightly timid but very sweet kitty who is looking for a quiet home where she can be the star of your heart. She didn’t get much of a chance to make kitten friends when she was younger, and at this point is reactive to other animals and would need to be a solo pet. She can be cautious at first, but is she’s highly motivated to get hugs, pets and snuggles from her people. She is a dashing little polydactyl with the softest coat, if you’re looking for a special kitty who will blossom into your new best friend, Chata is a deserving choice. Chata likes to play with wand toys, and all types of items she can chase. She loves to sink her teeth into the side of a fresh cardboard box. She would do best with adults only, or older kids who understand basic cat behavior, and definitely someone who wants to shower her with affection. Chata is fully box-trained and is on a variable diet of wet and dry food, preferring to rotate through different flavors and textures. Story
Peanut is a bundle of loving energy. Although he’s 4 years old, he plays like a kitten--blazingly fast at chasing wand toys. With a face that’s part tabby, curly ears, and a smidge of “Grumpy Cat”, his looks are unique! Smart as heck, sweet and friendly, he wants to be with you, and get pets, head and tummy scratches. Kitten Rescue saved Peanut from the LA shelter, where he had become blocked and couldn’t pee (a life-threatening situation). He had surgery to solve this and is fully healed, but his forever home needs to maintain him in a low-stress environment and monitor his bathroom habits to ensure he doesn’t get blocked again. He must be on wet (canned) food suitable for his condition to ensure his ongoing health. For these reasons, as well as his kitten-like qualities that require patience and dedicated time spent playing with him least twice a day, he would be best with experienced cat owners working from home or a family who’s willing to give him the care he needs. In return, Peanut will greet you at the door, follow you around the house, and keep you company while you work. His curly ears and bob tail, as well as his giant feet and polydactyl toes will enchant you; and his easy-going manner and friendliness with everyone make him a crowd-pleaser. Story
In Waiting, Just For You!Animal lovers can’t imagine abandoning or neglecting a pet, but it happens all the time. Thanks to a neighbor that shared Nefertiti’s abandonment story she was trapped and rescued from the neighborhood after 9 months living on the street.   According to the neighbor, Nefertiti was loved and had a stable home until her life changed when her owner passed away. The daughter neglected to take Nefertiti and left her to fend for herself. Nefertiti has a Siamese Maine Coon-Look. Here is some information about the breed mix: https://www.catster.com/cat-breeds/siamese-maine-coon-mix/ Nefertiti LOVES to open drawers and doors. She has a drawer that she likes to open and then crawls BEHIND the draw. It is very cute, but it is also hard to find her if she inside the drawer. Nefertiti is such a pretty cat. Having long hair means that she needs brushing, and she likes it but doesn't like de-shedding combs. You may want to invest some funds in regular grooming, or know that she can become overstimulated and usually shows body language warning that she may nip to let you she’s had enough. If she becomes matted, she will need to be sedated at the vet to be shaved. She looks really cute in a “lion's cut”. One of her very cute and quirky things is making a tent out of a blanket and she gets inside to snuggle up. She will ask for petting and likes being close, but she’s not a lap cat. She’ll only walk around in your lap to be petted and is not interested in sitting down to lounge. There is one bad habit she has that is very cute! She politely sits next to the table when you’re eating at looks up at you and stares like a dog wanting a treat. She never jumps up on the table or tries to take food, but is intensely interested.   Nefertiti has lived with other cats in the “rescue house” before she was fostered. However, after living in her foster home she’s enjoying all of the attention! She just looks out the window at cats outside.   She has NOT been around children. We thing an adult home is best because she can be startled by loud noises, or get anxious if there is a disruption in her environment when workman come in. Nefertiti enjoys kick toys with catnip in them. She throws them around the house.  Being alone while you work isn’t an issue for her as she enjoys her alone time, but she’s happy to see you come home after work. If there is a guest that visits, she will initially hide, but warms up to the guests if the house is quiet. It took her about a week to adjust and start interacting in her foster home and was fully settled in in about two weeks. Nefertiti would do well with mature owners that can let her have her own space. She understands the word, “No” if she jumps up on the counter.  If you have interest in Nefertiti, email: networkfounder@gmail.com and tell us a little about yourself, your family, or other people and pets in the home. If you've had pets before tell us about them and where they are now. You can also text 949-759-3646.  There is a 2-hour pet parenting consultation that is part of every adoption. You can learn how to introduce your new pet to existing pets, learn how to teach house manners and learn how to make cats happy and command train your pet and how to encourage your cat to be more affectionate.  The most expensive costs associated with pet ownership is the veterinary expenses. In the feline consultation you will learn the symptoms of diseases, too. It can save the life of your pet and save your bank account, too! The microchip registration is included in the placement fee and the animals come with a 30 day heath commitment and return policy. Our network promotes adopting kittens in pairs and makes available a four month payment plan. Our animals live in private homes with people that love them. We specialize in “pet-quality”, friendly, sociable cats and kittens and represent “Good Samaritans” in re-homing lost pets whose owners could not be found and private parties whose pets need new homes.  The founder of Animal Network of Orange County, DiAnna Pfaff-Martin, is very particular about the quality of the animals, vitamins, proper diet and veterinary medical care. Feral kittens are tamed to “pet quality” and rescue cats that are shy are disclosed and termed, “rescue quality” with a lower placement fee.  Most kittens in O.C. these days are born feral (wild without human touch since birth). Feral kittens left untamed can grow up and be skittish and hide. These kitties can be a challenge to get to the vet or even to touch for anyone besides their caregiver. People who have adopted feral kittens often describe their behavior as jumpy and maybe having been abused.  It’s what the organization does with the animals after they have been trapped and rescued from the outdoors that makes the difference in a quality animal. People believe that adopting the smallest kitten means they can raise the perfect animal. This is simply not true as most people are gone from the home for long hours and are not experts in the field of taming wild animals.  Adopting an adult animal that has been well-loved and has known behaviors and a personality that the caregiver can tell you about is what all should consider. Almost anyone would add a cute kitten into their home, yet 90% of adult cats- and even kittens older than 4 months- entering the municipal shelter systems are put to death because people are seeking the tiny ones.    November 15, 2024, 6:15 am

Story
Beautiful TICA cat show award winner!Royce is a big cat that is reminiscent of the breed Maine Coon. He is a very beautiful boy and has a sweet personality. He likes to be held and carried and near the one he loves. He has lived in multi-cat households and is a dominant male. A cat savvy pet-parent would be needed to introduyce him into another multi-cat family.  Since he is so very affectionate it would be nice for him to have a home without other cats so he could get all the attention. Royce was adopted from our organization when he was a kitten by a couple that showed Maine Coon cats. Sadly, the woman developed a severe respiratory disorder and had to give up all her show cats and Royce. That is why Royce has been shown at TICA cat shows and won two awards. He is available to be met in the caregivers home.       October 29, 2024, 7:02 am
