Story
Nacho is a 1-year-old Chihuahua with the cutest ears you’ve ever seen and a whole lot of love to give once he feels safe. This little guy can be very worried when meeting new people and wasn’t well socialized early on, so first impressions can be noisy—he may bark and growl at strangers until he’s had the time and space he needs to warm up. Because of this, Nacho is looking for an adopter who understands fear-based behaviors and is comfortable advocating for him, setting boundaries, and letting him move at his own pace. He should never be pressured to interact before he’s ready. Once Nacho knows and trusts you, his true personality shines. He’s incredibly sweet, loves to cuddle and snuggle with his people, and enjoys playing with balls and squeaky toys. He has lived with kids in the past and done well, but any new children should be introduced slowly and thoughtfully to help Nacho feel safe and confident. We do not yet know how he does with other dogs. Nacho will thrive in a patient, understanding home that can give him consistency, predictability, and plenty of reassurance. In the right hands, this sensitive little guy will be a devoted, loving companion—and your best snuggle buddy. Ready to Adopt? Story
OTHER PETS: Lindsay is dog reactive (meaning she will bark and lunge to create space) when she feels threatened. Because of this, she would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can feel safe and secure without the stress of animal interactions. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Lindsay would do best with someone that has experience with positive reinforcement to help a dog-reactive dog feel more comfortable while providing the management that she may require. [Some Experience]KIDS: Lindsay has exhibited resource guarding around her food and high-value treats while at the shelter, so she needs to be left alone while she eats her meals or while she's enjoying any kind of treat in order to avoid creating unnecessary conflict. She would do best in a home with no children and adults that can understand how to interact with her, and when to leave her alone. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lindsay loves to play and run around with her favorite people! She'll eagerly jump up into your lap for attention, and then jump off to chase after a ball at the drop of a hat. She's got a high energy level for a smaller dog, and will do best with someone that can keep up with her activity while also providing her with necessary mental enrichment to keep her healthy and happy. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Lindsay is still at the beginning of her positve training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Lindsay not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Moderate]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding within the home.
