Story
OTHER PETS: Pea greeted other dogs appropriately, was tolerant of some pushy sniffing, and then decided to do her own thing with the other dog still nearby. She would likely get along with other low key, well socialized dogs and should meet any dog she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement to keep learning fun, or willingness to learn. Pea is an older dog with a lifelong medical complication that may impact how she responds to interactions and handling. She would do best with humans who are able to accurately recognize body language and social cues, and give her space as she decompresses as well as when she wants space. [Some Experience/Positive Reinforcement] KIDS: Pea was relaxed on leash but uncomfortable with handling since arriving at TJO; she has grown more trusting of some staff but is still wary of others. Pea had multiple procedures done during her sterilization and is still healing, she will need a quiet place to recuperate with humans who will respect her space, allow her to set the pace, and not attempt to physically interact with her when not initiated by Pea herself. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Pea is prefecting her napping techniques and has decided that she can enjoy attention from some staff members occasionally; while she is not a `lap dog` she is definitely the sort of pup that would be a quiet companion for whatever stationary activity her humans are doing nearby. Once she decompresses in a home her personality will likely to continue to develop. Despite being a pup who enjoys relaxing, a combination of regular exercise that's suitable (minimal) combined with mental enrichment such as sniffing and food puzzles, will help meet her needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Pea had bladder stones and mammary masses removed during her spay surgery, she will be on prescription dog food for bladder care the remainder of her life - she has consistently eaten science diet prescription c/d chicken & vegetable stew. Pea will need a good relationship with a vet, checkups every 6 months (or more often if deemed necessary by the vet) will help keep Pea comfortable and ensure any health complications are attended to quickly. [Intensive]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Pea build confidence, bond with her owner, and have fun while learning new skills and some tricks. [Minimal] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Pea's coat clean and matt-free; should her coat become matted/tangled consult a groomer.
