Story
Hi my name is Splasher! I am a shy kind of dog who is looking for a patient owner who is willing to give me time to adjust and open up in my new home. I can be rather shy so I would prefer a quieter home without younger children. Once I get more comfortable, I will come out of my shell and start to show more of my true personality. If you are interested in meeting me, please fill out an adoption survey online or in the shelter.

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). Story
Meet Pixie! This three-year-old, 15 pound Pomeranian mix is ready to say so long to the kennel life and find her happily ever after! Pixie is admittedly not a fan of being a the kennel, and who could blame her. Luckily, one of our volunteers took her for a weekend away and we are thrilled to see her more playful side come out! While she loves a snuggly couch to cuddle on, she also does the most adorable zoomies throughout the house. A nice, fenced-in yard for her to enjoy would be ideal for Pixie so she can get daily exercise. Pixie can be very hesitant of new people and her adoptive family will need to be patient with her while she acclimated to her new home. This includes slow movements while handling until that trust is built. We are very proud of the progress she has made already. She rides well in the car and she is getting used to being leashed. With time and consistency, we know she will make one lucky family very happy for years to come! Based on our evaluation, Pixie would do best in a calm, predictable home with adults or families with kids ages 16 and up. She may have the potential to live in a home with other respectful dogs/cats and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you'd like the chance to make this pintsized princess part of your family, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for Pixie!
