Story
Meet Leonidas (or Leo to his friends) !! ***Post updated*** This absolutely stunning boy is ready to come rule the roost in your home. He’s a fun active guy with a lot of love to give. Leonidas is an approx. 3 year old male. He weighs 20 pounds and is full grown. He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. So what is he? Well we aren’t sure. He came to us from the shelter as a “large Pomeranian” and yeah, that’s exactly what he looks like lol. Could be some Keeshond or Spitz in there to account for the size he is. Whatever he is he’s a very handsome boy. Leonidas was surrendered to the shelter by his family. He did not do well in the shelter at all. He was scared and lashing out (typical behavior for smaller dogs in a scary place missing their families) We got him into a foster home and after a few days to adjust he was a sweet happy boy again. After being here a bit we discovered that Leonidas needs a confident adopter. He will absolutely take advantage of your gentle spirit and try to run the show. He needs someone that’s not scared to let him know they are the boss. He behaved this way with a very sweet lady he did a trial run with and then tried it on his foster when he returned. The foster family made it clear that attitude and behavior was not acceptable and he quickly accepted that and hasn’t tried again. He is one that may test you initially but it seems he gives up quickly once he understands who is in charge in the home. He is doing pretty good with his training so far. He’s done well on car rides and does not get sick. He did good with the limited leash walking we’ve done with him. Due to the heat lately we don’t take him out walking much. He gets hot quickly. He is crate trained and really likes his kennel as a safe place. He will go in randomly and relax and sleeps crated overnight. Leonidas is fully potty trained BUT he still marks territory indoors at times. Currently it’s been mainly in a room with rabbit cages and where another dog in training uses puppy pads. Those scents may be enticing him to do that behavior more. He is an energetic and fun dog. He definitely needs a home willing to keep his body and mind busy. He loves bones, toys, games etc. Exercising him with our heat lately is challenging so in home playing, games, training, puzzles etc are something his new family should be prepared to do for him. He’s a great size for someone wanting a spunky playful dog that isn’t huge. He is very loyal and wants to follow you everywhere. Leonidas is for sure an alpha kind of dog. He needs to be the head dog in the home or be the only dog. He does well with slow introductions to submissive dogs that don’t challenge him. He currently lives with our remaining two semi feral hoarding girls Apricot and Grapefruit. He does well with them aside from some unwanted attempts at love making that they don’t appreciate 🤦🏼‍♀️ He is not fostered with kids but we do think he will need only older kids in the home. He needs time to adjust to new people and places. He can be sensitive about his ears and generally wouldn’t likely tolerate younger kids. He will need to be with kids over 12 that are well behaved around dogs, respectful, and do not treat him like a toy. Leonidas has not been around cats that we know of. He currently shows a lot of excited energy seeing the bunnies in their cage. We think he will likely chase cats and probably won’t be the best fit for a home with them. He has not shown any issues with people or other dogs about sharing treats or toys. He is fed separately from other dogs so we aren’t sure how he would do with another dog trying to take his food. He’s fine with people around his food. Leonidas came to us with kennel cough and is now recovered and feeling great. He has found his bark recently. He is dedicated to vocally fighting off the kitchen mixer and vacuum. He barks at noises and door knocks. Not terrible but definitely can be loud at times. If you’re not willing to accept that about him please pick a different dog. Overall he’s a really fun loving sweet guy. He needs someone willing to give him time to adjust and then he will be glued to you. ♦️Dogs with his coat type need a lot of brushing and care given to it. They are not supposed to be shaved so proper maintenance is a must. If you’re unwilling to upkeep his coat then he’s not the dog for you♦️ Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. *** For faster response and to see more photos visit our facebook page

Story
💙 Everyone, meet Cole! This handsome throwback-style Pomeranian is estimated to be 4 to 5 years old, weighs approximately 15 pounds, and has a personality that is simply contagious! 🥰 Cole has never met a stranger. ❤️ Everyone is his friend, and he greets life with a joyful, puppy-like enthusiasm that is truly a delight to watch. His happy-go-lucky attitude, adaptability, and wide-open heart are rare, and he brings smiles wherever he goes. 🐶 Cole loves people. 🐾 He absolutely adores other dogs. 🧠 He learns quickly and already knows a few basic commands. 🚗 He rides beautifully in the car. 🛏️ He does well in both a crate and a playpen. ✂️ Grooming? No problem! He's a wonderful boy for baths and grooming. 💦 One of Cole's greatest loves is WATER! 💦 Whether it's splashing in a kiddie pool, swimming in a backyard pool, heading to the beach, exploring a lake, or spending the day on a boat, Cole is all in! 🚤🌊🏖️ He's the kind of dog who would happily put on his little life jacket, jump on the boat, and spend the day making memories with his family. While a water-loving home isn't required, it would certainly be a dream come true for this adventurous little guy! 🛟🐾 ⚡ Like many young Pomeranians, Cole has moderate to high energy and is looking for an active family that understands small dogs still need plenty of exercise, enrichment, and playtime. Cole has not shown any destructive behaviors. However, energetic dogs that don't receive enough physical activity and mental stimulation can become bored over time. We want to set him up for success by finding a family that will keep his happy little mind and body busy! 🥎🎾🐕 🏡 Our ideal home for Cole: 🏠 Homeowners will receive first consideration. 🌳 A securely fenced backyard is preferred. We will consider townhomes with securely fenced yards for the right family. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Children should be 7 years of age or older. 🚸 Homes with children must have a securely fenced yard. 🐶 We'd love for Cole to have another friendly dog close to his size to play with and keep him company but this is not required he can be an only dog too. 🐱 We don't have any history with cats, but based on his rural background, we believe he will likely do well with respectful cats. 🏊 Homes with pools are welcome! We simply ask that there be plenty of grassy yard space for Cole to run and play. We do not place dogs in homes with unfenced pools that have dog doors. 🌿 We do not adopt to "concrete jungle" environments where dogs have little access to safe grassy exercise areas. ♿ Because Cole loves to stay close to his people and can get underfoot, we are unable to consider homes where mobility devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters are regularly used. This is simply for everyone's safety. 🚽 Cole is still working on his house training and is currently recovering nicely from his neuter surgery. ❤️ 📅 Cole will be available for adoption after July 6th, but we are accepting applications now! 📍 Cole is being fostered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Because we expect him to be highly adoptable, we will initially give priority to homeowners within approximately a three-hour driving radius of Virginia Beach. ✨ If you're looking for a happy, outgoing, water-loving little adventure buddy who is ready for beach days, boat rides, road trips, backyard zoomies, and lots of cuddles, Cole just might be your perfect match! 🐾❤️ 👇 Applications are now open! We can't wait to help Cole find the amazing family he deserves. 🏡💕 Email : coastalsheltierescue@gmail.com the applications are online Www.coastalsheltierescue.org
