Story
Guinness is a 6 year old male brindle Pomeranian who weighs about 13lbs. Guinness is a sweet boy who seems to have a traumatic past. He has significant scarring on his shoulder, suggesting that he may have been attacked by a much larger dog at some point. Regardless of the specifics, whatever happened has caused Guinness to strongly dislike being picked up, though he loves attention. He loves sitting in your lap and giving kisses. He listens pretty well and is very quiet for a Pomeranian. Guinness is treat motivated and does great in a crate and in the car. He walks well on a leash but a fenced yard is required because it will take a while to get him to accept wearing a harness. Guinness was successfully groomed, but it took two visits and several medications. We are hopeful that with more time and exposure, he won't hate it as much. While medicated, we were able to pick him up several times with no growling. He is mostly potty trained, but could use additional training. He gets along with most other dogs. Guinness needs a Pomeranian savvy home with a fenced yard and no children. Please email dancersbridgedogrescue@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting Guinness. 🥰

Story
Cooper is handsome Pomeranian that is 8 years old searching for his forever family. Cooper has lived his entire life with other dogs and gets along well with everyone. He will need a dog to dog introduction with any resident canines prior to adoption just to make sure everyone gets along. He will also require children in his future home be 10 and up. Cooper was surrendered due to no fault of his own and has been the best boy since arriving here at the VBSPCA. He will need a dental prior to adoption and our kennel team can discuss this more in depth at the time of your visit. Cooper is a playful and happy fella that is also very photogenic if you couldn`t tell! If you would like to meet Cooper or have more questions please speak with our kennel team and they will be happy to help!

Story
Meet Louis! This sweet but somewhat shy fella is known to keep an eye out for his canine friends and loves to be with other canines. We are recommending other canines in his future home to help him acclimate a bit better! Any resident canines will need to visit with Louis to make sure everyone gets along. Louis can be a bit shy when first meeting new people and being in new places. Once he warms up he is a fun-loving, and happy canine that is ready for his next big adventure. Due to his somewhat shy nature we will require children in the home be 10 and up. Louis will need regular grooming to help maintain his coat so adopters should be prepared for regular grooming on their own or with a professional. We have a great list of local groomers we can recommend. Louis will need a dental prior to adoption that will be an added fee of $265 plus his adoption fee. If you would like to visit with Louis or have more questions please speak with our kennel team who will be happy to help.

Story
Meet Leonidas (or Leo to his friends) !! ***Post updated*** This absolutely stunning boy is ready to come rule the roost in your home. He’s a fun active guy with a lot of love to give. He is however a dominant guy that needs a special owner. Leonidas is an approx. 3 year old male. He weighs 20 pounds and is full grown. He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. So what is he? Well we aren’t sure. He came to us from the shelter as a “large Pomeranian” and yeah, that’s exactly what he looks like lol. Could be some Keeshond or Spitz in there to account for the size he is. Whatever he is he’s a very handsome boy. Leonidas was surrendered to the shelter by his family. He did not do well in the shelter at all. He was scared and lashing out (typical behavior for smaller dogs in a scary place missing their families) We got him into a foster home and after a few days to adjust he was a sweet happy boy again. After being here a bit we discovered that Leonidas needs a confident adopter. He will absolutely take advantage of your gentle spirit and try to run the show. He needs someone that’s not scared to let him know they are the boss. He behaved this way with a very sweet lady he did a trial run with and then tried it on his foster when he returned. The foster family made it clear that attitude and behavior was not acceptable and he quickly accepted that but tests it every so often. He is one that may test you and needs to understand who is in charge in the home. He is doing pretty good with his training so far. He’s done well on car rides and does not get sick. He did good with the limited leash walking we’ve done with him. Due to the heat lately we don’t take him out walking much. He gets hot quickly. He is crate trained and really likes his kennel as a safe place. He will go in randomly and relax and sleeps crated overnight. Leonidas is fully potty trained but did mark his territory a lot at first in his foster home. He does not do that anymore. He is an energetic and fun dog. He definitely needs a home willing to keep his body and mind busy. He loves bones, toys, games etc. Exercising him with our heat lately is challenging so in home playing, games, training, puzzles etc are something his new family should be prepared to do for him. He’s a great size for someone wanting a spunky playful dog that isn’t huge. He is very loyal and wants to follow you everywhere. Leonidas is for sure an alpha kind of dog. He needs to be the head dog in the home or be the only dog. He does okay with slow introductions to submissive dogs that don’t challenge him. He currently lives with our remaining semi feral hoarding girl Grapefruit. He does well with them aside from some unwanted attempts at love making that they don’t appreciate 🤦🏼‍♀️ He would likely do best as an only dog though. He gets nippy with any perceived challenge from another dog. He is not fostered with kids but we think a no kids household is more ideal for him. Leonidas has not been around cats that we know of. He currently shows a lot of excited energy seeing the bunnies in their cage. We think he will likely chase cats and probably won’t be the best fit for a home with them. He has not shown any issues with people or other dogs about sharing treats or toys. He is fed separately from other dogs so we aren’t sure how he would do with another dog trying to take his food. He’s fine with people around his food. Leonidas has found his bark recently. He is dedicated to vocally fighting off the kitchen mixer and vacuum. He barks at noises and door knocks. Not terrible but definitely can be loud at times. If you’re not willing to accept that about him please pick a different dog. Overall he’s a really fun loving sweet guy. He needs someone willing to give him time to adjust and then he will be glued to you. ♦️Dogs with his coat type need a lot of brushing and care given to it. They are not supposed to be shaved so proper maintenance is a must. If you’re unwilling to upkeep his coat then he’s not the dog for you♦️ Vet and home checks required. No kids, no cats, very submissive dogs or no other dogs. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️
