Story
Slinky is one of 11 hound mixes that rescuers in rural SW Oklahoma saved from a property where they barely had any shelter and fed inconsistently. Several rescues stepped in to take the dogs. I took 3. They are about 9 months old. And despite their horrible start in life all 3 of them have wonderful personalities and are super sweet. They are big, calm and great with other dogs and cats, including kittens. Shy at first but always friendly. They are not high energy and they do not bark or howl like you would expect from a hound. If you want a chill dog that is big, Slinky is your match. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tacoma, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Adoption fee: $500 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95

Story
New Year. Fresh Start. Forever Friend. This is Gordon—a 5-year-old hound mix who has been quietly waiting 13 long months in foster care for one thing: his person. Gordon isn’t here because he did anything wrong. He’s here because sometimes the best dogs take a little longer to be seen. He’s playful, gentle, and full of joy, with a hound nose that loves to explore and a heart that loves even bigger. He’s great with other dogs, wonderful with kids, and would thrive in a home ready for adventures, laughter, and unconditional love. Gordon has already proven how loyal and kind he is—now he’s just hoping 2025 is the year someone chooses him. This New Year, Gordon isn’t wishing for fireworks or resolutions. He’s wishing for a couch to curl up on… A family to belong to… And a forever that finally starts. &#226&#156&#168 Could you be the fresh start Gordon has been waiting for? &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143  January 1, 2026, 11:13 am

Story
EJ is a fun, young hound. He needs someone active, with a big outdoor life that will take him on adventures. He is affectionate and loyal to those who show him love. He would prefer to be the only dog as he doesn't like to share. He is not good with cats or other smaller animals or small people. He really wants to be a working dog.   For more info about EJ and our adoption process please enclose your phone number with your inquiry or call Jacki at 941-587-4612. November 2, 2024, 2:03 pm

Story
Meet Nelson 💙 a barely-one-year-old, 80-ish-pound giant baby who missed the memo that he is not, in fact, lap-sized. Nelson is what happens when a puppy grows way faster than his brain. He truly, genuinely believes he was born to live in your lap, be spooned like a teddy bear, and receive constant affection at all times. Sit down for even half a second? Boom! Nelson is climbing into your space, curling up, and sighing dramatically like, “Ah yes, this is where I belong.” His foster proudly reports that she spoons him, and honestly… that tracks. See what Nelson’s all about in his video! https://youtu.be/zsZ2Yipfz4U?si=813teQsG80cocPpL We think Nelson may be a Rottweiler/Bloodhound mix, mostly because: • he has SO much extra skin and rolls • his paws are absolutely massive • he’s going to be a big boy • and he has that gentle, droopy, soft-faced charm He’s a big, goofy, derby puppy with a calm soul. While he loves to play, tug, chase toys, and bounce around like a goober, he is also extremely mellow for his age. Nelson is very much a “play a little, nap a LOT” kind of guy. When he runs, he jiggles. All of him. It’s incredible. Truly a sight to behold. With dogs, Nelson is a dream. He’s friendly, submissive, polite, and just wants everyone to know he means absolutely no harm. He loves other dogs, plays well, accepts corrections, and happily shares toys with his foster sister. Tug toys? YES. Balls? YES. Sharing nicely? Also yes. He’d love another playful dog friend but would also be perfectly happy soaking up all the love as a solo pup. Nelson has been around his foster’s 7- and 13-year-old grandkids and does AMAZING. He is gentle, sweet, tolerant, and affectionate, truly the definition of kid-friendly. Despite his size, he’s careful with his body and just wants to love everyone. Nelson did so well in his cat test. He was very curious about the cat (because, honestly, everything is interesting when you’re a big goofy puppy), but he stayed gentle and respectful. He didn’t show aggression and handled himself calmly, though he was definitely invested in keeping tabs on where the cat went. Because of his size and curiosity, we’d recommend slow introductions and ideally a confident, dog-savvy cat — an overnight test would be a great way to make sure everyone feels comfortable. With proper management and time to adjust, Nelson has the potential to coexist well with feline friends. He’s also: 🐾 Crate trained 🐾 Walks easily on leash 🐾 Knows how to sit 🐾 Calm inside 🐾 Affectionate to his core He could absolutely live in an apartment (yes, really) thanks to his laid-back, couch-potato tendencies, as long as the apartment is cool with big, lovable boys. That said, he’d also adore a yard where he can sniff, wander, and do a few jiggly laps before coming back inside to nap dramatically. Nelson is the kind of dog who makes people laugh without trying. He’s sweet, squishy, silly, gentle, and full of love. If you’re looking for a giant puppy who thinks he’s tiny, wants to cuddle 24/7, and will happily become your shadow, Nelson is ready to flop into your life, probably directly onto your lap 💙 Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
