Story
Meet Birdie! Birdie is a 5 year old, 55-lb Coonhound mix who is intelligent, gentle, and affectionate. She’s low to medium energy, enjoys her daily walks (she is fully housetrained), and loves relaxing beside her people afterward. Birdie is great with cats and other dogs, friendly with everyone, and has a calm, soft presence that makes her incredibly easy to fall in love with. If you’re looking for a loving companion who brings warmth and kindness wherever she goes, Birdie is ready to brighten your home. She is currently being fostered in Staten Island, NY and her adoption fee is $500. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Barbie! Searching for a partner who is as smart as she is sweet? This intuitive girl is the ultimate 'thinker's dog.' She’s looking for an adopter who appreciates an active lifestyle and a sharp mind. She’ll impress you with how quickly she learns and keep you smiling with her TV commentary and famous wiggle-butt greetings. She knows how to behave in public places and will happily accompany you to an outdoor cafe or sidewalk sale. She's great in the car so load her in and bring her with you. After a day of outdoor adventures and a few brain-teasing puzzles, there is nothing she loves more than settling in for a serious cuddle session in her calm sanctuary. If you’re ready for a devoted, athletic, and brilliantly capable companion, your search ends here! This 2.5-year-old, 45 lb mixed breed beauty is smart, goofy, and full of curiosity. She’s a pro at fetch, loves chasing bugs (and catching them!), and thrives when given a job to do—definitely some working dog energy here! Barbie is house trained, though will occasionally use wee wee pads overnight.  Ready to give this amazing girl the forever home she deserves?? Apply on a laptop or computer at www.peace4paws.org/adoption-application.   If you are not in a position to adopt, consider donating so we can continue to provide care for dogs like Barbie that desperately need it. EJ is a fun, young hound. He needs someone active, with a big outdoor life that will take him on adventures. He is affectionate and loyal to those who show him love. He would prefer to be the only dog as he doesn't like to share. He is not good with cats or other smaller animals or small people. He really wants to be a working dog.   For more info about EJ and our adoption process please enclose your phone number with your inquiry or call Jacki at 941-587-4612. March 19, 2026, 12:17 am

Story
Meet Ellie Mae! Sometimes, saying goodbye is one of the hardest acts of love. Ellie Mae came to us after her beloved owner became ill and was no longer able to give her the care she deserves. He was heartbroken to make the decision, but knew finding her a new home was the best thing for his girl. Now, we're determined to make sure Ellie Mae's next chapter is everything she deserves. At 9 years old and 80 pounds, Ellie Mae is a beautiful Bloodhound mix with a heart as big as her paws. And if you're looking for a dog who has mastered the art of taking it easy, you've found her! She's an incredibly easygoing, calm, and laid-back girl who is perfectly happy lounging around and enjoying the good life. But don't let her couch-potato status fool you—mention the word WALK and suddenly Ellie Mae is ready to clock in! She loves getting outside, walks beautifully on leash, and is always happy to hop in the car for a ride. She's also house trained, travels well, and knows "come." Ellie Mae enjoys being pet and will happily hang out with her people, though she's not necessarily demanding constant cuddles. She's not particularly interested in toys and can be a little selective about her treats, but honestly, who needs toys when you have walks and a comfy place to nap? She's wonderful with dogs, adults, men, women, and elderly people, and her foster describes her as having no aggression and no concerning behaviors. She doesn't resource guard and is generally a very chill girl. Cats are currently untested. She does bark at the vacuum cleaner and was startled by a school bus, but otherwise she's pretty unfazed by the world around her. Ellie Mae isn't looking for a complicated life. She just wants a comfortable home, some good walks, a soft place to land, and people who will love her for the rest of her life. After losing the home she knew through absolutely no fault of her own, she deserves to know that her next home will be forever.
