Sweet Pea is the bravest girl, and she’s trying so hard to adjust to her new life. At just 7 months old, Sweet Pea was surrendered to a rural shelter after spending her entire life with her siblings and many other dogs. She came into the shelter undersocialized and afraid of a world she hadn’t experienced much of before. We knew she would need some extra patience, but at her age, we were hopeful we could help her learn that the world isn’t such a scary place. Since coming into foster, Sweet Pea has slowly started coming out of her shell. She’s an incredibly affectionate and loving girl once she feels safe. She loves being close to her people, cuddling and curling up beside you for a nap. She’s also doing wonderfully with the resident dogs in her foster home and loves playing with them. She did need slow introductions because unfamiliar dogs were initially scary for her, but once she realized they were friends, she blossomed. She also lives with a confident, social cat without any issues. Sweet Pea still has plenty to learn. Her foster family is working on house training and teaching her to walk on a leash, and she’s gaining new skills and confidence every day. Her future family will need to understand that new people, animals and experiences may take her a little longer to adjust to. We think Sweet Pea would do best in a calm, patient home with a fenced yard, a friendly and social dog companion, and no young children. A confident dog friend could be especially helpful as she continues learning how to navigate her new life. Sweet Pea was very lucky to make it out of the shelter, and we’re determined to help her become the brave, happy girl we know is in there. She may need a little more patience than the average puppy, but once Sweet Pea decides you’re safe, you’ll get to see just how loving this special girl really is. ❤️

Meet Gumbo 🐾 Wrinkles: ✔️ Feelings: ✔️ Meet Gumbo, a sweet, soulful hound with a wrinkly forehead and a whole lot of feelings! Surrendered to the Patrick County Animal Shelter, he's now safe with the DDBBR family alongside his buddy Sweet Pea. Gumbo is still learning how to be a dog, and he's making big leaps every day. He started out shy, but a few good sniffs, some treats, and a couple of gentle nose boops showed him that safety, snacks, and snuggles are his future. He enjoys other dogs, but human attention is his favorite thing in the world. He's also very food motivated, which makes training a breeze. He's currently working on his house skills and leash skills, and he's a quick study. And, yes, he knows everything is okay. He just has a face that always looks like he's pondering the mysteries of the universe. 🥹

It's Rougie...like the blush your grandma used to put on her cheeks! With that out of the way....let's talk about his little lady! Rougie is a young adult, redbone coonhound who weighs 46 pounds. She came to us from a shelter in rural, Central Va with more dogs than adopters and a heavy hound population. Upon arrival, Rougie tested positive for heartworm disease. She has been treated while in our program and is now ready for adoption! Rougie is sweet and petite and lots of fun! She enjoys romping around the yard another dog and isn't above digging a hole every now and then! She is very affectionate and loves to be petted and cuddled! She is well housetrained in her kennel and is ready to make the move to an adoptive home. Rougie is a gorgeous girl and is sure to make a hound lovin' family very happy! (NO CATS....she will not make cats happy.) Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3 charitable rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, Va. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
