Everybody, meet Whoofie! Whoofie is a 2.5-year old, Coonhound mix. Whoofie is a very smart but goofy boy. He is curious about everything. He loves people. He is very funny at times. He loves to run. He loves his toys and even gives them love nibbles. He loves to take things and put them somewhere else. He is picky about treats, I just keep trying different treats with him. He is very sweet. Whoofie does well with children, other dogs, and cats. Whoofie is already ready neutered and up to date on his vaccines. Meet Lottie 💞 Lottie is a redbone coonhound mix from Patrick County, and she’s about 8 months old. Her foster has already lost their heart to her and calls her “the cutest thing ever,” which we couldn’t agree with more! Like so many hounds, Lottie is slowly coming out of her shell, one brave little step at a time. And she is so, so brave! 🐾 Her biggest discovery so far? Furniture. The first time she found out about soft couches and cozy cushions, she climbed up and simply refused to leave. Can you blame her? When you’ve never known comfort like that, why would you ever want to get down? Now Lottie is looking for the person who will help her learn how to dog. She has so much to explore and needs a patient guide to show her the way. Her ideal adopter has a fenced-in yard or experience with leash training, and, we suspect, a spot on the couch with her name on it. 🛋️ Could that be you? 💕

It's Rougie...like the blush your grandma used to put on her cheeks! With that out of the way....let's talk about his little lady! Rougie is a young adult, redbone coonhound who weighs 46 pounds. She came to us from a shelter in rural, Central Va with more dogs than adopters and a heavy hound population. Upon arrival, Rougie tested positive for heartworm disease. She has been treated while in our program and is now ready for adoption! Rougie is sweet and petite and lots of fun! She enjoys romping around the yard another dog and isn't above digging a hole every now and then! She is very affectionate and loves to be petted and cuddled! She is well housetrained in her kennel and is ready to make the move to an adoptive home. Rougie is a gorgeous girl and is sure to make a hound lovin' family very happy! (NO CATS....she will not make cats happy.) Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3 charitable rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, Va. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. His legs go every which way, but he has the best time. You think he won't be able to stop as he comes at you full speed, but he has definitely learned his braking system. He pulls up just before he gets to you and let's you know he is thrilled you came to see him.I think we could all use a bit of his carefree spirit.Dewberry is a 3-year-old redbone coonhound. And he is gorgeous. He is heartworm positive but has already started treatment, and it is fully covered by AAS.The other amazing feature of Dewberry is this inner calmness he seems to have. If you're sitting with him, he will look over at you, as if to say, yep, I understand what you are thinking and agree. Who doesn't need that in their life?Please come meet this gentle, playful boy. Meet Dozer, a hound mix with big, fat paws, an even bigger head, and irresistible wrinkles that will make you smile! 🐾❤️ Life hasn't always been easy for this sweet boy. Before coming into rescue, he spent much of his time outdoors without many of the comforts most dogs take for granted. He has a few scars that tell the story of his past, but he's ready to leave those days behind and enjoy the good life! And he's already discovering just how wonderful that life can be! Soft beds, cozy couches, tasty treats, and toys are all things he's learning to appreciate. He likes people, enjoys affection, and is pretty okay with a little grooming. Loud noises can occasionally startle him, but he's a sweet, good-natured guy who just needs a little reassurance. Dozer is a hound through and through! His nose leads the way, he loves to explore, and he alerts the pack with an adorable, soulful howl whenever emergency vehicles pass by with their sirens going. He's also a little clumsy at times, which only adds to his charm! Because he hasn't had much experience with leash walking or formal training, he'll need someone willing to help him learn. He's a strong boy who will sometimes pull on leash, so a secure, properly fitted harness is important. He also has a tendency to mark, so he'll benefit from consistency and patience as he adjusts to indoor living. He does know to go potty outside in the yard and on walks. Crates aren't his favorite, and he'd much rather have a comfortable spot to relax. He can coexist with larger, calm dogs but would do best in a home without small dogs, puppies, or cats due to his strong prey drive. His ideal home? A patient, loving family that understands hounds, appreciates their quirky personalities, and is ready to show this deserving boy what being a cherished family member is all about. Dozer also has chronic dry eyes and needs his family to give him drops twice a day to help him produce tears. After seven years of making do with so little, he's ready for a soft place to land, a little guidance, and a whole lot of love. This is what RESCUE is all about! ❤️
