Hello, Lucy! Lucy is a sweet and petite, redbone coonhound who found herself in a rural shelter with more dogs than adopters. At only a year or two old and 40-45 pounds, she really is a little sweetie! She gets along great with other dogs and is excellent with kids! She is house trained and crate trained too! Currently, she is crated while her foster parents work during the day and enjoys sleeping loose at night. Lucy is a playful, active, young lady who will be most successful with an active family. A fenced in yard and other doggie friends to romp with his her idea of heaven! Tug of war with her canine foster siblings is her favorite game besides counter surfing! Hey, she is almost perfect but she's still a coonhound! If you are ready for lots of fun and a few shenanigans, Lucy Lu would be perfect for you! Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3 charitable, foster based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, Va. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Meet Marybelle! Marybelle was found with her 4 puppies on the side of the road, but Marybelle did such a good job keeping them safe until amazing humans stepped up! Now that all her kids found homes, she's patiently waiting for her turn. She is a gentle soul and loves people. She's got big ears and a bigger heart! She loves to go for casual walks and adventures, but she's just as content hanging out at the house with her people. She may need some time adjusting to living inside and help to get onto a routine since we aren't sure what her background is like before coming to the RHSPCA. She is food motivated, so that will help with training and maybe just to spoil her more. Marybelle is loyal, loving, goofy and we know that she is going to make the perfect companion. FOSTER NEEDED — Big Boy Sawyer 💛 Sawyer deserves a chance, and his story deserves to be told. For nearly his entire life, Sawyer knew exactly where he belonged. He was adopted as a puppy and spent the next 10 years in the same home, loved and cherished by his family. Then suddenly, his entire world changed. Sawyer's mom became very sick and could no longer care for him or Sasha, another dog in the home. Sasha had originally been adopted from DDBBR as a puppy, so when their mom didn't know where else to turn, she called us. We agreed to take them both. We couldn't let a 10-year-old dog who had spent his entire life in a home suddenly find himself in the shelter system. Now Sawyer is safe, but he's in boarding. And that's not where this big senior boy belongs. Sawyer is about 75 lbs and is an incredibly sweet, loving dog. He loves being petted, loves being close to his person, and has one of the biggest smiles around. He and Sasha truly love being together. They can be adopted together, and we would absolutely love to see that happen. However, we do believe Sawyer could adjust to a home without her as long as his new family understands that he may have a longer adjustment period to transitioning to his new home. Sawyer will also need slow introductions to new dogs. He isn't aggressive, but he can be anxious when meeting unfamiliar pups and needs a little time to understand that they're safe. Sawyer has successfully lived around ducks and chickens in his previous home but we aren't sure about cats. Mostly, Sawyer needs someone to look at this big, gray-faced boy and realize that at 10 years old, his life isn't over. He deserves a couch. He deserves someone to sit beside. He deserves to know the comfort of a home again. We are desperate to get Sawyer out of boarding. If you can foster or adopt Sawyer—or have room in your heart and home for both Sawyer and Sasha—please reach out. A senior dog who has already lost the only home he's ever known shouldn't have to spend his days waiting in a kennel. Let's get this boy back into a home where he belongs. 💛
