Story
Hi there! I'm Axel, your future best friend. My days are filled with joy as I play with my toys and greet everyone with a wagging tail. I love being around people; their laughter and happiness are my favorite sounds. My sweet nature makes me a great companion. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will always be there to cheer you up and bring a smile to your face, I'm your guy. Let's make countless happy memories together! Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2450912##

Story
Today we have Ollie, a young strapping man who LOVES kids and other dogs of all sizes.  One of those guys who doesn't know exactly how big he is but makes up for his clumsiness in cuddles.  Great a helping clean the kitchen counters and floor (food driven) or training others to keep them clean, enjoys laundry day (warm towels and sheets are the best), is even a great singer!  Ollie will greet you slippers in mouth when you get home, maybe a blanket some days.  Don't let this sweetie pie get away! Story
FOSTER NEEDED — Big Boy Sawyer 💛 Sawyer deserves a chance, and his story deserves to be told. For nearly his entire life, Sawyer knew exactly where he belonged. He was adopted as a puppy and spent the next 10 years in the same home, loved and cherished by his family. Then suddenly, his entire world changed. Sawyer's mom became very sick and could no longer care for him or Sasha, another dog in the home. Sasha had originally been adopted from DDBBR as a puppy, so when their mom didn't know where else to turn, she called us. We agreed to take them both. We couldn't let a 10-year-old dog who had spent his entire life in a home suddenly find himself in the shelter system. Now Sawyer is safe, but he's in boarding. And that's not where this big senior boy belongs. Sawyer is about 75 lbs and is an incredibly sweet, loving dog. He loves being petted, loves being close to his person, and has one of the biggest smiles around. He and Sasha truly love being together. They can be adopted together, and we would absolutely love to see that happen. However, we do believe Sawyer could adjust to a home without her as long as his new family understands that he may have a longer adjustment period to transitioning to his new home. Sawyer will also need slow introductions to new dogs. He isn't aggressive, but he can be anxious when meeting unfamiliar pups and needs a little time to understand that they're safe. Sawyer has successfully lived around ducks and chickens in his previous home but we aren't sure about cats. Mostly, Sawyer needs someone to look at this big, gray-faced boy and realize that at 10 years old, his life isn't over. He deserves a couch. He deserves someone to sit beside. He deserves to know the comfort of a home again. We are desperate to get Sawyer out of boarding. If you can foster or adopt Sawyer—or have room in your heart and home for both Sawyer and Sasha—please reach out. A senior dog who has already lost the only home he's ever known shouldn't have to spend his days waiting in a kennel. Let's get this boy back into a home where he belongs. 💛

Story
FOSTER NEEDED — Sweet Sasha 💛 Sasha’s world has completely changed. Sasha actually started her life with DDBBR. She was adopted from us as a puppy and spent the next 8 years as a loved and cherished member of her family. She had a home, her people, and her best buddy Sawyer, another dog in our program, by her side. Then her mama became very sick and could no longer care for them. When she didn’t know where else to turn, she called us. Sasha was one of ours all those years ago, and we knew we needed to be there for her again. We also agreed to take Sawyer so these two senior pups wouldn’t end up in the shelter system after losing the only home they had known. Now Sasha needs a soft place to land. She is an 8-year-old hound, around 60 lbs, and she is about as sweet as they come. Sasha loves people, enjoys affection, and has spent her entire life knowing what it means to be part of a family. She has also lived around chickens and, of course, has spent years sharing her home with Sawyer. Sasha and Sawyer really love each other, and we would be thrilled to find someone willing to foster or adopt them together. But we also understand that taking on two larger senior dogs is a big ask. We believe they can be placed separately as long as their new families understand that being apart will be another adjustment after an already enormous change in their lives. At 8 years old, Sasha isn’t looking for anything extraordinary. She just wants what she had before. A home. A person to love. A comfortable place to sleep. Someone who will remind her that even though everything she knew changed, she is still safe and still very loved. Sasha spent her entire life as someone’s dog. We want nothing more than to give that back to her. If you can foster Sasha—or have room in your home for both Sasha and Sawyer—please reach out. These two deserve the chance to get back to the kind of life they’ve always known. 💛
