Since then he has been living with other dogs at our partner shelter. He was a bit nervous at first but quickly warmed up and got comfortable.PersonalitySaka is a sweet, easygoing love bug. He walks around with a happy, smiling face, and when someone comes into his kennel in the morning, he waits quietly to see what the day brings. His energy level is moderate. He adapts well to new places, and when he meets something new, he approaches carefully to check it out. Sometimes he’ll ask to be petted, and sometimes he’ll simply turn and go about his day. When he’s on his own, he mostly rests.CompatibilitySaka isn’t shy with new people. He walks right up to give them a sniff, and he’s the same with men and women. His favourite thing is affection: if you stay still, he’ll come over, push his head into you, and happily enjoy a long pet. He may flinch a little now and then, but there’s no spot on his body he minds being touched. He hasn’t met children yet, so any introductions should be calm and supervised. Parents should take full responsibility for teaching both their children and their dog how to interact safely.Saka gets along well with big dogs and has never had a fight. He loves running around with dogs who match his energy, and during playtime he barely stops to rest. He isn’t possessive over food or toys.Saka hasn’t lived with cats before, so we can’t say for certain how he’d do. Knowing his gentle nature, though, we think it’s possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Behaviours & TrainingSaka does his business outdoors. He’s practicing walking on a leash and harness, and he’s doing well. He doesn’t pull much and follows along nicely. He stays calm in the car and does well at the vet. He’s relaxed and well behaved during baths, brushing, and nail trims. He doesn’t chew things he shouldn’t, and he isn’t much of a barker. He knows his name and “sit.”Health & DietSaka is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. He’s missing two toes on his left hind foot and has arthritis in his left hind ankle, but neither one stops him from walking nicely on a leash or running around with his friends. He doesn’t need any medication right now, though joint supplements would be a good idea to support his ankle. He has no known allergies and no history of surgeries or treatments. His teeth are fairly clean, and he’s scheduled for a dental scaling. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home.He eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far. We’re keeping an eye on his weight to go easy on his ankle, and since he isn’t a greedy eater, that’s been easy to manage.Ideal HomeSaka would love a home with a dog friend who matches his energy, and a yard where they can run around together would be a big bonus. He’ll need help staying at a healthy weight and keeping up with his joint supplements to support his ankle. He’s gentle, calm, and not easily bothered, so he’d be a good fit for a first time adopter as well as an experienced one.Saka has a big, soft heart and a smile that’s hard to resist. If you’d like a gentle friend who’ll lean in for a head pat every chance he gets, Saka is waiting for you.
