Indy is a very good dog who has been great with our daughter. He needs people that are home more and can spend more time with him. While it’s possible that he has Cushings disease, the vet has not diagnosed him. We currently don’t have the resources to help him continue to live a full life.

Story
Sasha how are you holding up? You are lonely and worried aren't you girl...the people you trusted to keep you safe all seem to drop you. Time and time again she is handed off like a baton only never making it to the finish line. Sasha is a big girl, she is strong, she is also timid even shy and needs to build her confidence. Sasha was living with a family that really didn't care for teaching her, training her, they just brought her up like a weed and when she was no longer convenient, they dropped her at a kill shelter. She struggled in the overcrowded environment, and the shelter let the previous owner know they will be putting her down, through some miracle she was given to another owner. This person got lost on their path and during her stay with this individual she was nervous, mishandled and sometimes mistreated. Sasha is like all of us, trying to phone home. Where exactly is that place. Sasha walks nicely on a leash and despite her confusing start to life-she loves taking direction from people. Sasha has a protective streak and will bond to her main person or people. She will honor you and will enjoy the guidance for many years to come. Sasha seems interested in people even kids but still needs to build her social skills. She was polite around a child and didn't try to get over to the child in any of setting manner. Sasha is like many dogs that end up in the rescue system undertrained, under loved, misguided and in need of structure and care. This girl needs some real TLC and a real shot at a true family. We are still learning how Sasha gets along with animals but will know real soon after we assess. To ask about Sasha, please contact us directly by calling  847-338-3252   or emailing  info@redemptionroadinc.org .      February 17, 2026, 8:20 am

Story
Honey is a beautiful 6-year-old Ridgeback mix with a loving heart and a playful spirit. Due to changes in her family’s health, they made the difficult and selfless decision to find her a new home where she can continue to thrive and receive the attention she deserves. Honey is as sweet as her name suggests—she adores spending time with her people, whether that’s playing in the yard, going for walks, or simply soaking up affection. She has a fun, youthful energy balanced with the maturity of an adult dog, making her a wonderful companion for a variety of households. Honey is ready to bring warmth, loyalty, and lots of tail wags to a family who will cherish her as much as she will cherish them.THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN SAVING A LIFE!Volunteers and staff are excited to assist you in the adoption process! Story
Meet Happy – Your New Running Buddy Hi, I’m Happy. I’m an almost 3-year-young mixed breed — maybe Black Mouth Cur / German Shepherd mix — weighing about 60 lbs. I’m tall, lean, and athletic. I was found as an underweight stray puppy in rural Tennessee. After spending 18 months at the shelter without anyone claiming me, the staff decided I deserved a better chance. So I made the trip to Chicago, and now Safe Haven is helping me find my forever family. I’m a young guy with youthful energy. Long walks, runs, and playtime help me burn it off. If you’re looking for a running buddy, I’m your guy. I absolutely love zooming around the fenced yard at my foster home — a 5-foot fence would be ideal for me. I’m playful and toy-savvy. Squeaky balls, nylabones, and leather toys are some of my favorites. Despite my energy, I’m a quiet and well-mannered boy in the house. I like to be near my people — I’ll relax in my dog bed while you work and snooze nearby while you watch TV in the evenings. Because I’m strong and enthusiastic, I can forget my size when I’m excited and sometimes get a little mouthy in play. For that reason, I’d do best with older kids (10+) or teens. I’m fully housebroken and prefer doing my business in the fenced yard. Walks are mostly for sniffing and neighborhood scouting. I walk nicely on leash, and a harness helps keep me manageable. I don’t react to dogs across the street, though an unexpected runner might earn a surprised woof. After spending more than half my life in a shelter, home life is still somewhat new to me. I love affection and pets but am still building confidence with things like jumping on the couch or navigating stairs, which I’ve recently decided aren’t so scary after all. If you’ve helped a rescue dog gain confidence before, I think we’d make a great team. I know sit, stay, come, leave it, and down/off. I’m smart and food motivated, so continued training will be fun and rewarding once I settle into my forever home. I currently live with two other dogs and peacefully coexist with them. I’d really love to play, but since they’re smaller than me, they’re not quite as enthusiastic. In a new home, I’d do best with a dog my size and similar age who can match my play style — or I could happily be your one and only. Because I love chasing squirrels and bunnies, a home without cats would be best. After so long in a shelter, I’m not a fan of crates or being confined, and I don’t love being alone for long stretches. I’d thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time, especially if you work from home. If you have a fenced yard for fetch, enjoy long walks or runs, and want a smart, affectionate companion who will motivate you to get outside, I’m ready. After waiting so long, I’m just looking for a loving home where I won’t be alone anymore. I promise to reward you with zoomies, loyal companionship, and lots of leaning-in-for-pets moments. Adoption Information Happy’s standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for cash or check payments, making the fee $450. The adoption fee covers: Spay/neuter surgery (when age appropriate) at one of our participating veterinarians Age-appropriate core vaccinations Fecal testing and deworming Flea and tick preventative Microchipping To be considered for adoption, we require: A fully completed application A phone interview A meet-and-greet with your entire household Submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval — it simply begins the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Please note that the breed and size listed in each dog’s biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Meet Isabella – Your New Best Friend! Affectionate • Gentle • Family-Oriented Isabella—affectionately called Bella—is a sweet and soulful 1–2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix weighing around 50 pounds. She’s already spayed, house trained, and crate trained, making her a wonderful addition to the right forever home. Bella is a loyal, loving companion who thrives in the company of her favorite humans, especially children. She currently shares her foster home with two girls (ages 8 and 12) and absolutely adores them! Her gentle and affectionate nature shines brightest when she’s with her family. She also lives with a small 17-pound foster dog brother. While they’re still figuring out how to play together (Bella doesn’t always realize her size), she’s respectful and friendly with him. Bella can be shy at first—especially with new people and men—but she warms up to women and children quickly. With time, patience, and a calm approach, she’ll learn to trust and love new friends at her own pace. At home, Bella is a laid-back girl. She’s perfectly content napping on the couch or chewing on her favorite toy while you're away. Whether it’s a long walk, a zoom around a fenced yard, or a snuggle session on the couch, Bella is happy just being near you. Bella is looking for a patient, loving home that will give her the time and support she needs to feel safe and confident. In return, she’ll give you her whole heart. Could you be the one to show Bella what forever really means? Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
