Meet Ivy 2-year-old Catahoula mix | Found as a stray in Saint PetersSo far, we’ve learned Ivy is not exactly a “sit pretty for photos” type of girl… but she is the kind of dog who wiggles right up to staff like she’s known them forever. This beautiful Catahoula girl is still decompressing and figuring shelter life out, but her personality is already starting to shine through. She’s curious, gentle in her own way, and incredibly interested in the world around her. Outside, Ivy wasn’t focused on toys — she wanted to sniff every inch of the yard like she was reading the world’s most important newspaper. And yes… she proudly handled all of her business outside like an absolute professional. As a Catahoula-type dog, Ivy will need an adopter who understands the breed and their needs: Positive reinforcement obedience training Plenty of mental and physical stimulation Structure, routine, and outlets for her working-dog brain Continued confidence building and patience while she settles inCatahoulas are intelligent, active, and deeply loyal dogs, but they are not couch potatoes. They thrive when given jobs, adventures, and guidance.Ivy may try to herd children due to breed tendencies, so we are recommending: Children over 10OR A home experienced with herding/working breeds that understands how to appropriately manage those instincts around kidsOne thing Ivy will need continued work on is “kennel up,” as she can be hesitant to return to enclosed spaces. Shelter life is still very new and overwhelming for her.But underneath all of that uncertainty is a sweet girl with so much potential just waiting to blossom in the right home. When she met Boomer, she immediately wanted to say hello and jump into play. She can be a little forward and independent, showing that she prefers playful canine companions, but she’s also happy to hang out with people when the other dogs are done playing.Quinn is a vocal player and loves to talk while she plays and explores. She walks well on a leash when reminded, but if she gets excited or is in adventure mode, she may pull a bit.
