Good day! I'm Tiara! My sister and I were adopted together when we were little, but somehow we found ourselves back out in the world and ended up as strays. I’m a mix of Catahoula Leopard Dog and German Shepherd — so I’ve got both smarts and style! I’m a sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs, and I’ve even been around chickens, turkeys, and goats with no trouble at all. I’d love a home where I can stretch my legs, run, play, and go on all sorts of adventures with my people. I'm super smart, a quick learner and I respond well to training. I just graduated a 7 week obidence training course. I'm also housebroken & I've lived in a home before and know the ropes. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving friend who’s ready to make every day brighter, I think I might be the one for you! Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Miles is a complete love bug! He lives for affection and positive reinforcement. He currently shares his home with two tiny senior female Chihuahuas and is always willing to wait patiently while they get the first treats and dinner. He also has a foster mom who works from home. Miles is an extremely happy and sensitive soul. He absorbs the feelings of his person and environment and works very hard to make sure his foster mom is always happy and protected. Due to his protective nature, he is enrolled in specialized training to assist him in overcoming some of this drive. Miles will shut down if voices are raised or he thinks he’s done something wrong. Miles is true to his breed. He’s always watchful, will try to “herd” his chihuahua lady friends, incredibly smart, and as mentioned, is protective. The ideal home for Miles would be a family without children (as his drive to protect will likely heighten if he has young children around and he’s a big goofy boy that doesn’t realize how strong he is), with someone who works from home or is only gone a few hours a day as he can exhibit signs of separation anxiety, and someone who can be gently consistent with enforcing manners and positive behaviors. Miles is not crate trained as his anxiety skyrockets if crated; however, if left free in the home he will not damage anything. He will sleep peacefully or monitor the comings and goings of the neighborhood through the window. He also requires a home with a fenced yard so he can lay in the sun and play. Miles is 100% a loving, loyal companion. He loves attention, treats, snuggles and walks. He has learned sit, down, wait, gentle, go potty, and walks well on a leash. He is learning to handle his big emotions around protecting “his” family and yard, and improving his consistency with commands, patience and not reacting to external stimulation. He is the smartest dog his foster mom has had in 3 decades of foster and rescue and he will use his intelligence to get what he wants. Pugsley Adams Pugsley Wugsley is a very cute and playful 5 month old boy. He and his sister Wednesday were found by some caring people before their eyes were even open, they saved their lives and raised them until they could find help. We were happy to take them into our rescue and they are excellent puppies who will make great companions to any family. Pugsley is so sweet although he is a little slow to warm up to men. He would do best in a house with a confident dog to teach him the lay of the land, as he does depend on his sister and foster dog brother. Pugsley loves to snuggle and spend time with his humans! He currently lives with kids and thinks they are so fun!
