Story
Hi... I'm Forest.
Before I tell you about myself, I should probably tell you one important thing...
I'm a "let's be friends slowly" kind of guy.
When we first meet, I might seem a little shy. New people can be scary, and I prefer to take my time deciding if someone is trustworthy. I hope you won't take it personally.
Because here's the secret...
Once you earn my trust, you'll discover that I'm actually a goofy, affectionate, incredibly loyal boy who thinks snuggling is one of life's greatest achievements.
My foster family says watching me get excited is one of the funniest things ever. Apparently, when I'm really happy to see my favorite people, I stop looking like a graceful Rhodesian Ridgeback and start looking like a baby fawn that's still figuring out how legs work.
I can't help it. My happiness gets the best of me.
I'm about 2½ years old, around 70 pounds, and I've already learned that life is much better when you have someone you trust by your side.
Actually... two someones. Because I really love other dogs.
Having a confident dog friend helps me feel brave, and I'd really like a home with a canine sibling who can show me that new things aren't so scary after all. I love playing, sharing naps, and just following their lead.
Cats, though...Let's just say they're not my people.
I'm also a pretty smart guy. I already know "sit," "down," and "wait," and learning new things is one of my favorite hobbies. Toss me a few treats and tell me I'm a good boy, and I'll happily show off everything I know. (And yes... I absolutely love hearing that I'm a good boy.)
Walks are one of my favorite parts of the day. You'll notice something sweet when we walk together...
Every so often I'll glance back at you, just to make sure you're still there. I like knowing my person is close.
I'm also a fan of car rides, chasing tennis balls, learning new tricks, and—after all that excitement—taking a world-class nap.
I'm house trained, kennel trained, and my kennel is actually one of my favorite places. It's my safe space. If visitors come over, I may choose to relax there with the door open until everything settles down. I don't need anyone to make me say hello. I'll come out when I'm ready.
That's the thing about me... I'm not difficult. I just need someone patient enough to let me bloom.
My perfect family will understand that trust isn't something that can be rushed. I'd love a quiet home with a secure fence (at least 5 feet), another friendly dog, and people who celebrate the little victories—because every day I'll become a little braver than the day before.
I tend to feel most comfortable with women at first, but with patience, kindness, and time, I know I can build trust with the right man, too. Just remember...
I won't be forced into a friendship.
I'd rather discover it on my own.
If you're looking for the dog who runs up to greet every stranger, I'm probably not your guy.
But if you're looking for the dog who chooses you...
Who checks to make sure you're still beside him on every walk...
Who melts into a goofy, loving best friend once you've earned his heart...
I promise you...I'm worth the wait.
Love,
Forest
