Story
Meet Miss Winter Spice! This 1 year old rhodesion ridgeback mix came to us the day after Christmas, with a very tragic story to tell. Winter Spice was found running along the road by the Bryson City Welcome sign, hoping someone would stop and help her. Thankfully, a wonderful family did and brought her straight to P.A.W.S., where she was immediately assessed and taken care of by our team. Upon first look, you could tell she was very malnourished and extremely scared of people. She would not walk or even try to stand when people were near her out of fear that something would happen. For many days, our team would carry her outside to use the bathroom, then back inside to her bed, as she still would not walk out on her own.  She started to trust us more and more every day. It started with her ever so slightly wagging her tail when we would come into her room, and then she slowly started to stand up and walk over to us. We did everything at her own pace and never rushed her. In return, she showed us trust and a growing love. However, that is not quite the end of her story. We noticed she had some past trauma to her jaw. We would feel hard fragmints scaddered throughout her jaw and neck, but unsure of what they were. We immediately took her to the vet, where it was discovered her jaw was completely shattered, and what we were feeling was bullet fragments. We had so many questions for why someone would do this. How could anyone hurt an animal, let alone one as sweet and gentle as Winter Spice? We will never understand why these things happen, but one thing we do know is that we will never let anything happen to this sweet girl again.  other dogs and has made many friends here at the shelter, including Suki and Bama! She is still a bit scared of walking on a leash, but with a lot of patience and comfort, she will be ready to go out on walks in no time! She adores children and is such a sweet girl to everyone she meets. While Winter Spice still has a surgery coming up to reconstruct her jaw before she can be adopted, she would love to have some friendly faces come up and hang out with her at the shelter while she waits and heals.  Over the last month, Winter has grown into a completely different dog. What was once a scared girl is now a girl who wants all the attention, and to show everyone she meets love. She loves

Story
Wrangler is being fostered in PA. Wrangler has some limited vision. Haroo, my foster Mommy said I had to give an update on me. I am now 11 months old! She has been helping me deal with something called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Man, thems big words. I will just call it what foster Mommy says, EPI. It means that that pancre-something thing inside me doesn’t give me enzymes so I can digest proteins. So foster Mommy puts enzymes in my food to help me with that. Also, Mr Vet Dr said because of this EPI thing, my B12 level in my blood is low, so foster Mommy gives me a shot every other week of B12. I am a good boy for those and don’t even feel them, as long as I hold still. Other than that, I am still learning various commands. I tell foster Mommy when I need to go out. I sleep all night with foster Mommy. I love playing with other dogs and cuddling with humans. I can sometimes get scared when I don’t know someone, but will warm up to them especially if they have treats. I am okay with older children. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Volt is being fostered in NC. Volt has some vision. update Volt is doing well! He lives for cuddles at night before going to bed in his crate. During the day he has one speed and that is lightning fast. His favorite treat is carrots and he will do anything for them but lay down, lol. He has a pretty good recall and knows sit. He is fully potty trained and goes to the back door when he needs to go out. He plays so gently with his foster mom's mini aussies and rough and tumble with Elektra (corso) and Trigger (lab). Volt had some grand mal seizures that were caused by Simparica Trio. These lasted about 3 weeks with lingering focal seizures. He is still on keppra and he's doing great! He has not had any seizures in the last 3 months. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately

Story
Meet Bourbon – The Sweetest Little Pup Ready to Find Her Forever Family! Bourbon is a 3-month-old Catahoula Leopard Dog and Labrador Retriever mix who is as gentle and loving as they come. Weighing in at just 13 pounds, this sweet girl has a calm, docile personality that makes her an absolute joy to have around. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves spending time with her foster’s two pups. Bourbon did great in her crate from the very first night and already uses her puppy pads like a pro. She’s quiet most of the time, only barking when she wants a little attention, and she absolutely adores her crate and toys. Bourbon is affectionate but still a little shy as she continues to come out of her shell. She loves her naps, sleeps soundly through the night, and hasn’t shown any signs of shedding so far. Bath time isn’t her favorite yet, but she’s learning! Potty training is going amazingly well — only one accident so far — and she’s even started sitting for treats just by watching the older dogs. She enjoys running and playing in the backyard and will make a wonderful companion for a family looking for a sweet, easygoing puppy. Details: Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog & Labrador Retriever Mix Age: 3 months Weight: 13 lbs Gender: Female Good with: Dogs and children Almost completely housetrained Crate trained Adoption fee: $300 Bourbon is ready to bring love, joy, and puppy snuggles to her forever home.
