She was surrendered to us alongside her sister Pudge, and while her past wasn’t ideal, Roxie is holding out hope for a future full of love, stability, and warm naps in a home of her own. Roxie adores people and bonds quickly—she’s the kind of dog who will follow you from room to room just to be near you. She’s potty trained, well-mannered, and incredibly affectionate. While she loves her sister Pudge, she’s still working on feeling confident around other dogs. Shelter life can be especially hard for heartworm-positive dogs like Roxie, making it tough to decompress and socialize. But with patience and time, she has the potential to grow more comfortable. She hasn’t met cats yet and has done well with older kids. Roxie is currently heartworm positive, but don’t let that scare you—her treatment is fully covered by the rescue, and she’ll go to her new home as a foster-to-adopt placement during that process. This means you get to love and care for her while we cover her medical needs, and once treatment is complete, she’ll officially be yours. Alfalfa has so many meanings. To horse people alfalfa is a rich and green leafy food :) To dog people, Alfalfa, means ME!!! I have not lead the most "leafy" life though. I was FINALLY saved from an extreme hoarding situation - I was waiting my whole life to leave that "life" behind!! And I am SO grateful to the ladies who have taken over a year to save 65 of the 87 dogs I lived with AND are still working to get more out! I am a shy when u first meet me, but don't let that de-suade you! I will warm up and you will be so so grateful that you gave me the time to open up to you and show you my steady and grateful side, I am more of a loner than a lot of hoarding dogs are, I actually would be fine with or without another dog or cat. I am slow to trust but once I trust you I am a quiet and loving companion :) Only on my terms. I have been through a lot and just need the most wonderful, patient, laid back and quiet family!! I know you are OUT THERE!! Look onto my chocolate dreamy eyes, and get that application in! I am waiting..... Just like the classic debate- Left Twix versus Right Twix... both sides together ARE THE BEST! Just like a Twix bar, I am super sweet, a little salty, and really ooey gooey! I was found when I was only 10 months old and brought to God’s Dogs Rescue. I was adopted shortly after but returned due to being a snarky teenager and showing tenacity and energy common with my breeds. Training would have been key! Anyway, since coming back, I have spent almost **4.5 years** living on GDR's ranch property in Texas. I’ve been overlooked all this time and it’s time for that to change! I have now been in a foster home for a few months. It took some time to adjust to being indoors again but I have learned the wonders of ✨air conditioning✨. It also took time to adjust to “less dogs” but I‘m loving my newfound personal space. There are other dogs in my foster home but, at my age, I prefer dogs that match my low energy. I may even be fine as the only dog. Kids, same thing, I prefer ones that are old enough to respect my space and low energy. Certainly no cats or other small animals for me! I still have a tinge of that independent/stubborn streak from my youth but, at the end of the day, I am a BIG LOVER! I get so excited, wiggly, and bouncy with my foster mom. She gives the best scratches and I give the best hair tumbleweeds. I shed A LOT! While living at the rescue, they took great care of me...too good, honestly. I have become fat and happy but the weight has worn down on these ol’ joints. I am on a diet, limited treats, and I am getting joint supplements every day. I am a generally lazy guy but I am amazing on a leash and love to go on walks. More consistent exercise will help with my weight loss. I still have plenty of pep in my step (especially when I‘m on the hunt for squirrels) so don’t let my age or size fool you. I am so ready for my new AND FINAL home! I will melt your heart when you look into my caramel eyes and sweet, chocolatey soul. Don't hesitate, ADOPT ME!!
