Story
Izzi is so sweet. She is a bit shy and timid at first, but when she warms up to you, she will beg you for scratches under her chin and behind her ears. She’s a bit of a picky, slow eater and gets rather shy and fussy when another dog gets in her space when she’s trying to eat. It’s best she eats in a kennel in a different room where other dogs can’t see her. Other than this, she plays with my dogs (both large and small) very well! She doesn’t know very many cues yet, but we are working on it. She runs away and hides a lot at small things and while she’s definitely not aggressive, she is a a lot more reserved of new people…Possibly making her a flight risk. I keep her leashed in my fenced in yard as a precaution. She has a lot of puppy-like energy once she warms up to her person, though. Like the kind that’s like, “hey I’m gonna get all wiggly and demand you give me attention right now!” She loves to do cute little spins and lays her whole body down really fast before getting up and doing it again. She’s a gentle treat taker and has never growled at me for taking a food bowl, treat, or toy.. she will absolutely bark and growl at another dog though. She hangs out with my 9 y/o daughter and has become her shadow. She adores her. I have a cat but haven’t tested her with him yet, as this stresses my cat a lot. She keeps her kennel clean, but sometimes she has accidents in my house still. She’s a bit fussy if you don’t pay attention to her right away, but this just means she wants to be your best friend 24/7!

Alfalfa has so many meanings. To horse people alfalfa is a rich and green leafy food :) To dog people, Alfalfa, means ME!!! I have not lead the most "leafy" life though. I was FINALLY saved from an extreme hoarding situation - I was waiting my whole life to leave that "life" behind!! And I am SO grateful to the ladies who have taken over a year to save 65 of the 87 dogs I lived with AND are still working to get more out! I am a shy when u first meet me, but don't let that de-suade you! I will warm up and you will be so so grateful that you gave me the time to open up to you and show you my steady and grateful side, I am more of a loner than a lot of hoarding dogs are, I actually would be fine with or without another dog or cat. I am slow to trust but once I trust you I am a quiet and loving companion :) Only on my terms. I have been through a lot and just need the most wonderful, patient, laid back and quiet family!! I know you are OUT THERE!! Look onto my chocolate dreamy eyes, and get that application in! I am waiting..... Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 ( includes transport to your area)

Story
Hey there, I’m Susie! I’m a 4-year-old Bully mix with that classic look — chonky, short, and strong! Right now, I’m hanging out in a foster home where I’ve been learning all sorts of good manners. I even graduated from a 7-week basic obedience class (I’m pretty proud of that!) and my awesome foster keeps helping me learn new things every day so I can be the best doggo I can be. I’ve got a big personality — loving, loyal, and just the right amount of sassy. I’m not a fan of cats, and I can be a bit particular about other dogs, so I’d probably do best as your one and only pet. But trust me, I’ve got enough love to fill your whole home! If you’re looking for a sweet, spunky girl who’s ready to make you smile every day, I think we’d be a perfect match! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2204969##

Story
Hi! My name is Raspberry Beret! I'm a 2 year old, happy-go-lucky Pitbull mix. My foster Mom tells me I'm a shy but sweet, eager to please girl that loves to PLAY, so I NEED another large active dog in my new home!   I also love playing with toys and chewing on nylabones, but I REALLY love running through the back yard. I get along with my 4-legged foster siblings, and I would do best with a submissive, tolerant male dog that really enjoys playing. I really need a similar size very active dog in the home. Due to my activity level, I'm too much for a smaller dog. I'm a young lady with a LOT of energy to burn and need a back yard in my forever home or a very active person that likes to walk or hike on a regular basis. And I can jump really high so a 6 foot fence would be ideal. I'm also potty trained and after a day of play I do good in my crate at night and actually prefer to sleep in the crate, keeps me out of trouble.    Did I mention that I love to play!?! But what I love most is SNUGGLING (after we've gotten to know each other of course!)!     I would love to become the newest member of a family that will include me in their activities. If you like snuggling after going on new adventures together, fill out an application and my foster Mom will contact you so we can meet! If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Raspberry Beret’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Eichel, is a very handsome boy!  He is a young Aussie / Shepherd / Boxer mix, about 70#.    He loves to play and eat and he’s very well mannered.  He loves his people, but would also love to have an active furry friend.  His favorite time of the day is EVERY morning.  He would love to spend his mornings with his new forever family. Eichel would do best with a similar sized doggie companion.   Not sure about cats or kids/small children.   Eichel has recently graduated from the 12 Week Puppies for Parole training program offered through the Mo Department of Corrections.  While in training he was taught basic obedience and socialization skills and learned to be a good canine citizen.   If interested, please  complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO.
