Pickles was found by a crew of Site Conservation Technicians at Horseshoe Lake State Park in Madison County, IL. In July 2025. As of today no one has claimed him and he has been fostered by one of the technicians since then. The technician position is a temporary job and they will be out of work soon and will no longer be able to care for the dog so rehoming is critical at this time as all other shelters are full. He is both sweet and friendly as well as protective and obedient. Loves to travel and be by your side as much as possible. He requires time, patience, and a lot of exercise. He is no more than a year old according to the vet and up to date on all vaccines, as well as neutered. He has a chew toys, food & water bowls, hoodie & PJ's set, and a harness. I can also accommodate with an outdoor run/lead system if necessary and a large bag of food. PLEASE serious inquiries only! We are running out of time and too many people have given us false hope already. Thank you.

Alfalfa has so many meanings. To horse people alfalfa is a rich and green leafy food :) To dog people, Alfalfa, means ME!!! I have not lead the most "leafy" life though. I was FINALLY saved from an extreme hoarding situation - I was waiting my whole life to leave that "life" behind!! And I am SO grateful to the ladies who have taken over a year to save 65 of the 87 dogs I lived with AND are still working to get more out! I am a shy when u first meet me, but don't let that de-suade you! I will warm up and you will be so so grateful that you gave me the time to open up to you and show you my steady and grateful side, I am more of a loner than a lot of hoarding dogs are, I actually would be fine with or without another dog or cat. So, as you can see I am a BIG BIG GUY(130#)!!! Like the German Rotties, I have a BIG old HEAD and a propensity to protect my people....... I need just the right home, no other dogs please. I was not socialized with other dogs while growing up and am a big boy and so introducing to other dogs is a challenge for the rescuers and therefore we are looking for a single dog home. I am a very typical rottie and was kept as a protector of the property. I LOVE my people and honestly would love to be a lap dog, lol, but I also need a couple or single who is a strong leader, who really understands my breed and who will assure that I stay safe and others do as well. Now, I have a sweet and loving side, and my friends love that about me ;) But look at my face, without my toothy grin, and you know they understand that I am a serious guy :) I love my peeps and am ready for just the right place. I can only be adopted in TX and HAVE to be met and introduced and spend time with me before the rescue will approve my adoption. So only the strong need apply!!
