Meet Priya! Priya is a sweet little Schipperke with a heart of gold. She's curious, playful, and ready to explore the world! *About Our Adoption Process* By submitting your application, you're confirming you're ready to move forward with the adoption process immediately if approved. Additionally, we don't hold dogs. We typically receive multiple applications for a single dog, but we'll only move forward with one applicant at a time. Our adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery (if covered through our partner vet), microchip and registration, and vaccinations and deworming as needed for that dog at the time of adoption. *Once adopted, all veterinary care is the adopter's responsibility.*

Story
#A5787371 Val is a 3-year-old, 29 lb neutered male Schipperke mix with a gentle, sensitive soul. Found as a stray and terribly matted, this poor little guy has been through a lot already. So, it’s understandable that he is fearful in the shelter. Val needs someone willing to go slow and let him build trust at his own pace. 🖤 Think of him like a cat — give him space and let him come to you. Once Val feels safe, he seeks affection and shows his sweet side. He's calm, housebroken, and walks nicely on a leash. An experienced, adults-only home where he can decompress would be perfect for this deserving boy. Val had a spa day and all those awful mats were removed. He is certainly feeling much lighter and happier now. -3 years old, neutered male, 29 lbs -Calm and sweet once comfortable -Housebroken, good on leash -Needs slow trust-building -Experienced, adults-only home -Just needs a safe place and some love 🐾 VAL’S VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RshkeR3WHA8 For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lor@unitedhopeforanimals.org Photo Credit: Rafael Diaz Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center https://animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Story
UPDATE 9/13/2026: Unfortunately Buddy did not do well in his adoptive home due to similar challenges displayed in the first home--resource guarding both space and objects, still has challenges meeting strangers and being handled for bathing or grooming. Transfer to a rescue partner or experienced adopter is still preferred, please let us know ASAP if you can help Buddy! UPDATE 8/12: At the time of our first plea for Buddy on 8/4, we could not safely walk Buddy out of his kennel for enrichment or adoption interest. Some good news… he has since gotten out on a few occasions! One such occasion was for shelter playgroup. While Buddy did not show any interest in playing with other dogs, he eventually loosened up to accept greetings and did not require any corrections. Buddy also came out of his kennel for an adoption show! Buddy was tolerant of meeting new people with no growling, barking, or lunging, despite being uncomfortable. We were so proud! In his previous home, Buddy displayed challenges with resource guarding both space and objects, and had difficulties meeting strangers. Buddy’s former owner did seek help from a professional trainer, and they made some progress with trading for high value objects, ultimately his owner did not feel comfortable keeping him… especially following the passing of a loved one. Buddy’s behavior also makes grooming difficult, and he is not able to be groomed at a salon, but allowed for baths at home in the past. Leashing and taking Buddy out of his kennel has still been tricky, but luckily he has a special team of volunteer handlers who are working hard to make it a more positive experience! We are hopeful that Buddy can learn better manners and basic life skills with training, structure, and time. We are reaching out to the community and our rescue partners as we think Buddy`s best shot of finding permanent placement will be with someone who recognizes he’s more than just an perfect, adorable, precious fluffy face, and is willing to put in the work needed to help him thrive as a safe and respectful pup. VCAS may be able to assist with some post-adoption support! Transfer to a rescue partner or experienced adopter is preferred. Buddy’s placement options are limited, so please let us know ASAP if you can help.Adopters, please inquire at animal.care@ventura.org with Buddy A885341. Information about the human/animal members of your household and any relevant experience is always ap
