Story
Three dogs were found dumped near a busy road in Bakersfield, CA. Sully, the male, was the first they were able to catch, but Windy, the female, was much more cautious. The rescuers didn’t give up, and after a long, windy day, they finally got her to safety. Everyone was overjoyed to have saved two of them. Sadly, the third dog never turned up, and it’s unknown if they survived. Unfortunately, this is an all-too-familiar story. Bakersfield is currently facing a severe stray and shelter overcrowding crisis. Many dogs in the area are abandoned, living on the streets, or entering shelters that are far beyond capacity, leaving them at constant risk with very few chances for safety. That is why, over the years, we at Shelter Hope have taken in thousands of dogs from Bakersfield—now including Windy and Sully, ready to begin their new chapters. Sully is the sweetest, softest soul with a truly gentle heart. He’s very submissive and happily offers his belly for pets, always ready for affection. At just 12 lbs, this Pom–Papillon mix has a charming presence that wins people over instantly. He does well with other dogs and kids, and his friendly, easygoing nature makes him a joy to have around. Sully Boy would be a perfect addition to a family looking for a gentle, affectionate companion. Now fixed, vaccinated and microchipped, Sully is ready for his second chance! ---- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Step 1) Application Step 2) Phone Interview Step 3) Appointment Shelter Hope is operating by appointment only. Be ready to adopt: If selected, our rescue counselor will contact you to schedule a phone interview. Please monitor your email and spam folder for our message. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. More on our process: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!
