Story
Meet Mochi!  She is a 6 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Chocomi and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Mochi was brought over from Korea 3 years ago and was quickly adopted out.  Devastatingly for Mochi, her family has had a new baby and now can no longer keep her.  Here is a biography of things they have said about her.   Mochi is an outgoing goofball of a dog who loves to go out on adventures and explore. Don't let her photos fool you, she looks big in photos but she is 22 lbs. She has spent the last three years in a loving home, but is unfortunately not well suited for living with infants due to a sleep-startle reflex from her traumatic history.  Also if she is eating she wants to be left alone.   She is house-trained, knows her basic commands, will heel when on walks, and tends to be easy to train due to being food motivated.     While we don't know the exact details of her past, we suspect based on behavior that she did not get the best start in life and was used for breeding, was beaten, and had her puppies taken away at a young age. She is still learning how to play with toys and tends to take cues from other dogs.   it is better if she is in a home with other confident dogs to show her the ropes.   Mochi's favorite thing is getting in the car to head off to a new place to explore, she loves hikes, and is excited to see other dogs.. At home she is independent and often spends long periods of time outside on the lookout for squirrels and lizards that threaten the backyard. Once she knows you and loves you she will get in cuddly moods and lean against you for support and love.    Mochi does well with routine, and prefers daily activity and free access to the backyard.    If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app October 20, 2025, 4:44 pm

Story
**Note: Currently, Popi is in Korea, but will fly to LA on Dec 9 once adopted. Background Popi was rescued this fall from a cow farm. He had been kept there as a guard dog, chained with very little food or care. The short chain made every day hard for him. Even so, whenever he saw our volunteer walk by, his tail would start wagging. We tried for a long time to convince the owner to surrender him. Finally the owner agreed and we were able to bring Popi to our partner boarding house, where he now lives with other dogs. Personality and Socialization Popi has been loving and gentle from the very start. Even at the farm he showed nothing but kindness, greeting every person with a wagging tail. He was never suited to be a guard dog because he would happily greet anyone who passed by. He enjoys the company of other dogs and does well with them. He simply prefers dogs who are gentle and friednly. If a dog is overly loud, pushy or too energetic, he quietly walks away. Popi is affectionate, friendly and steady in his temperament. Behaviours Popi has been wonderful in every setting. He is polite, smart and eager to please. He does well in the car, during bath time and at the vet. He enjoys walks, though he may pull a little when he gets excited. He does not like being locked in a cage, but aside from that he has shown no separation anxiety and has been consistently well behaved. Health and Diet Popi is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has been dewormed and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies. Ideal Home Popi has a sweet and balanced personality with a medium energy level. He would be a wonderful match for many families, whether it is a first time dog parent or a home with another gentle dog. His ideal home is one where someone works from home or is retired so he does not have to be alone for long hours. He loves people and thrives on companionship. Popi is smart, loyal and easy to love. Whoever adopts him will be very lucky to have him. -------------------------- For more info about the dog, or the adoption applicaiton, please follwo the link below. https://www.freekoreandogs.org/dog/popi-2/

Story
In March 2025, upon hearing news that a wildfire was spreading rapidly, WEACT set out in the early morning darkness toward Sancheong, Gyeongnam. With a trunk full of bottled water, dog food, and rescue equipment, we departed without hesitation. From that day on, the flames raged fiercely, spreading to Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Andong, and Yeongdeok. As the fire roared, animals that could run escaped in all directions. But those still tied with leashes—unable to be freed in time—were trapped, unable to take a single step in the searing flames.Even the ones who did escape couldn’t endure the unbearable heat and collapsed with severe burns. The #GyeongbukWildfireRescueDogs barely clung to life just steps from death, but they were left with terrible pain and trauma. It was there, in the midst of that devastation, Aru was rescued.

Story
Meet Dongree   Breed: Shiba mix Age: 4 years old Sex: Spayed female Colour: Brown Weight: 14kg Height (to shoulder): 45cm   Rescue Story   Donggree was rescued from a city shelter’s euthanasia list and has been waiting patiently ever since for a family of her own.   She may take a few days to open up — usually between 3 days to a week — but once she feels safe, her loving and playful personality shines through. She’s affectionate with familiar people and allows gentle handling or even being lifted once trust is built.   Personality & Socialization   Donggree has the classic Shiba mix personality — a little cautious at first, independent, yet deeply loyal once she bonds with you.   She gets along well with most dogs, both larger and smaller, but can react if another dog challenges her. For this reason, careful introductions with new dogs are recommended. With friendly dogs, however, she loves to play and enjoys companionship.   Her reaction to cats hasn’t been observed yet.   Energy Level & Behavior   Donggree has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor walks and activities but settles calmly afterward. She walks well overall, though she may pull on the leash occasionally. Once the leash is on, she follows nicely and enjoys the walk.   She doesn’t guard food from people or other dogs and behaves quietly in her kennel. She feels anxious about car rides, so she prefers to be held during transport.   She’s comfortable using both pee pads indoors and pottying outdoors, which makes her adaptable to different home environments.   A Loyal and Independent Spirit   Donggree is a bright, affectionate girl with that unmistakable Shiba charm — loyal, clean, and quietly confident. She may be cautious at first, but with patience and consistency, she opens up to reveal a loving heart.   Once she trusts you, she’ll become your faithful shadow, following you with her signature calm energy and gentle eyes.   Ideal Home: A patient and understanding family who can give her the time she needs to build trust. A home that appreciates the independent but affectionate nature of Shiba mixes would be perfect for her.   Donggree may take a little time to trust, but once she does, she’ll stay by your side for life — loyal, loving, and full of quiet strength. Story
Meet Danbi — Looking for Her Forever Family!   Name: Danbi Age: 3 years Sex: Spayed Female Spayed: Yes Breed: Shiba–Jindo Mix Color: Brown Weight: 13kg Height (shoulder): 41cm   Rescue Story   Danbi entered a city shelter with her four newborn puppies. Sadly, all her puppies passed away there, and she was rescued on June 15, 2023. She has since spent 2.5 years living safely at the shelter and is now finally ready for a loving home of her own.   ‍‍ Socialization with People   Danbi is affectionate and friendly — she approaches both familiar and unfamiliar people on her own, leans in for pets, and enjoys being touched. She likes both women and men.   She hasn’t met children under 13, but based on her calm, gentle nature, we expect she will do well with them. She can be picked up with arms under her belly, and once she bonds with you, she’ll even show her tummy for belly rubs.   Socialization with Dogs   Danbi absolutely loves other dogs. She greets both familiar and unfamiliar dogs politely and invites them to play. Her dog social skills are excellent — even when another dog jumps on her or plays a bit too rough, she never reacts negatively.   She especially enjoys dogs around her size and thrives with friendly, playful companions.   Cats   She shows curiosity when she sees cats on walks but will follow her handler’s lead without pulling or lunging. A cat test can be arranged upon request.   Energy Level   Danbi has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor activities but settles calmly afterward. Inside the home, she is relaxed and easygoing.   ‍ Walking Manners   Danbi loves sniffing, so her pace is “walk–stop–sniff–walk.” She walks well in quiet areas but becomes slightly hesitant in heavy traffic. If she gets scared, she does not bolt — instead, she stays close to her handler and walks slowly beside them.   Other Behaviors • No food guarding toward people or dogs • Not vocal — rarely barks • No separation anxiety • Calm in the crate • Prefers doing her potty outdoors   If you think sweet Danbi could be the perfect addition to your family, please submit an application through our website Apply to foster or adopt to show him how beautiful the world can be. www.adoptmekr.org Please visit our Facebook or Instagram.
