Meet Mochi! She is a 6 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Chocomi and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Mochi was brought over from Korea 3 years ago and was quickly adopted out. Devastatingly for Mochi, her family has had a new baby and now can no longer keep her. Here is a biography of things they have said about her. Mochi is an outgoing goofball of a dog who loves to go out on adventures and explore. Don't let her photos fool you, she looks big in photos but she is 22 lbs. She has spent the last three years in a loving home, but is unfortunately not well suited for living with infants due to a sleep-startle reflex from her traumatic history. Also if she is eating she wants to be left alone. She is house-trained, knows her basic commands, will heel when on walks, and tends to be easy to train due to being food motivated. While we don't know the exact details of her past, we suspect based on behavior that she did not get the best start in life and was used for breeding, was beaten, and had her puppies taken away at a young age. She is still learning how to play with toys and tends to take cues from other dogs. it is better if she is in a home with other confident dogs to show her the ropes. Mochi's favorite thing is getting in the car to head off to a new place to explore, she loves hikes, and is excited to see other dogs.. At home she is independent and often spends long periods of time outside on the lookout for squirrels and lizards that threaten the backyard. Once she knows you and loves you she will get in cuddly moods and lean against you for support and love. Mochi does well with routine, and prefers daily activity and free access to the backyard. **Note: Currently, Popi is in Korea, but will fly to LA on Dec 9 once adopted. Background Popi was rescued this fall from a cow farm. He had been kept there as a guard dog, chained with very little food or care. The short chain made every day hard for him. Even so, whenever he saw our volunteer walk by, his tail would start wagging. We tried for a long time to convince the owner to surrender him. Finally the owner agreed and we were able to bring Popi to our partner boarding house, where he now lives with other dogs. Personality and Socialization Popi has been loving and gentle from the very start. Even at the farm he showed nothing but kindness, greeting every person with a wagging tail. He was never suited to be a guard dog because he would happily greet anyone who passed by. He enjoys the company of other dogs and does well with them. He simply prefers dogs who are gentle and friednly. If a dog is overly loud, pushy or too energetic, he quietly walks away. Popi is affectionate, friendly and steady in his temperament. Behaviours Popi has been wonderful in every setting. He is polite, smart and eager to please. He does well in the car, during bath time and at the vet. He enjoys walks, though he may pull a little when he gets excited. He does not like being locked in a cage, but aside from that he has shown no separation anxiety and has been consistently well behaved. Health and Diet Popi is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has been dewormed and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies. Ideal Home Popi has a sweet and balanced personality with a medium energy level. He would be a wonderful match for many families, whether it is a first time dog parent or a home with another gentle dog. His ideal home is one where someone works from home or is retired so he does not have to be alone for long hours. He loves people and thrives on companionship. Popi is smart, loyal and easy to love. From that day on, the flames raged fiercely, spreading to Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Andong, and Yeongdeok.As the fire roared, animals that could run escaped in all directions. But those still tied with leashes—unable to be freed in time—were trapped, unable to take a single step in the searing flames.Even the ones who did escape couldn’t endure the unbearable heat and collapsed with severe burns. The #GyeongbukWildfireRescueDogs barely clung to life just steps from death, but they were left with terrible pain and trauma.It was there, in the midst of that devastation, Aru was rescued.
