Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.One minute you have an owner that takes you everywhere in his truck and lets you and your brother sleep on the bed or next to his recliner.  Then the unimaginable happens and your dad won’t wake up.  You can’t call for help, you can only watch over your daddy until someone stops by.  After three days strangers started banging on the door and finally brake in.  These are people you have never seen before.  In your fear you both start barking and trying to protect dad.  The next minute you have a catchpole choking your neck and throwing you in a kennel.  You are separated from your brother and thrown in a loud kennel with strangers.  You sit in a corner shaking with fear until you finally see a face you recognize.  But you are so scared you keep barking and growling until you realize they are here to save you and your brother.  This is Chula’s story.     When we got Chula and Booger to the rescue they were still in shock from losing their dad.  For the first two months they would only let Pat near them, since they knew her in their old life.  Finally they started responding and were able to come to the kennels were they could interact with the workers and start looking for a new family.  Booger was able to find a home and is living a remarkable life.  Chula wasn’t understanding how she went from pampered housedog to living in a kennel by herself.  A decision was made to place her with Chance and see if they could make a connection.  The transformation of both dogs was incredible.  Chance became sociable and would allow us to leash him and take him for walks with Chula.  Chula enjoyed getting out of the kennel and playing.  They started spending the day in our exercise areas playing and running.  They have become social to new people and are ready for the right home.  Chula is an older dog.  She only has a few more years if she is lucky.  She has been a house dog and has never pooped in her room.  Ideally, we would love for Chance and  Chula to find a home together.  Unfortunately. we know how rare that opportunity is.  Are you that special someone who has love to give to an older dog?  She can be cautious around new people, but given a few minutes Chula will start working her magic on you.  Chula’s ideal home will be an older family without small children and no cats or small dogs.  She enjoys playing with toys and Chance in the rescue’s exercise yard.  She would love and needs to have a home with a fenced yard with perhaps a companion dog so they can play and explore the yard together.  Chula is a beautiful Shar Pei/lab mix who weighs  61.2 pounds.  She has a thyroid issue, so she has to have thyroid pills twice a day.  Are you wanting a partner to watch TV with?  Chula is ready!  You can apply for Chula at www.adoggie4you.org and arrange a meet and greet.  Chula’s adoption fee is $250.  If you would consider adopting both Chula and Chance, the adoption fee would be $300. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 7, 2024, 4:01 pm

Sweet Alba. How can you not love that adorable face Alba is a Sharpei mix. Unfortunately she didn't have a good life as was found taking cover and hiding out in the bathroom stalls at the Missions baseball field. All that is behind her now and she is ready for her own family!! Alba's great with dogs, not sure about cats. She does a cute little dance when waiting for her food in her crate. Marlee is a fun name for a fun gal! I was living my life and having some fun, except no one got me "fixed" so the fun ended up with me being a single mother with 6 hungry mouths to feed!!! Who thinks that their fun will lead to months of feeding and my milk producers dragging on the ground :( I sure didn't... However, I LOVE MY BABIES!!! Now that they are on their own in foster homes, that is :) I am a fun gal, I love to play with my friends and I am great with other playful and fun dogs. I am a climber and a jumper so it may be why I was out playing in the first place.... but I digress... I am happy and sweet and I have the gorgeous soft, PLENTIFUL muzzle of a Shar Pei, with the energy of a lab or shepherd or who knows what other breed I am. So you know about my "kissable" mug, right?? Shar peis have the big "fluffy" cheeks and soft sweet nose, not to mention the eyes that stare into your SOUL!! Yes, that is ME!!! Now I am a Shar Pei mixed girl, but it's as obvious when you meet me, as the nose on YOUR face :) I am Annabelle and I was dumped with my 9 puppies when they were teeny and I was starving :( LUCKILY, we were dumped by one of our AMAZING public servants (Fire Chief) and his wife, they knew they couldn't just leave us to die... SO THEY SAVED US!!! And let me tell you, we are A LOT of love, kissing and WRINKLES! My pups are all being adopted and I am ready for MY furever home too!! I am so sweet and gentle, I love to play with my doggy friends and puppies but no kitties need apply!! Not a fan of the claws, lol. I am such a good girl that you won't miss not having a kitty anyway :) I am ready for a medium energy home, I love to lay around plenty but can get a little excitement for other things like hiking or neighborhood walking. Whiskey was born July 15, 2023. He came into rescue at 8 weeks old when the owner couldn’t find him a home. His mother is boxer and father Black and Tan hound. (Pictures of parents attached.) He is a sweet playful pup that has done great with small and large dogs. He is crate trained and doing very well with his house training. He loves toys and sticks to chew on. A GENEROUS DONOR HAS COVERED THIS DOG'S VET COSTS, GIVING YOU A REDUCED ADOPTION FEE! Virginia was dumped out pregnant and despite going up to several homes and people, no one tried to help. She eventually wandered up to an empty house to have her three babies and thankfully someone finally took pity and reach out to get her help. Now Virginia and two of her puppies - Violet & Vince - are still waiting for families of their own and they are all on the URGENT list as their shelter is over full and they are running out of time. This girl is going to make someone a fabulous companion! She walks very well on a leash and is learning not to pull. She is potty-trained and is active but not hyper, does not jump, nor does she guard her food or toys. Virginia LOVES to go for car rides, especially if there's a burger and a pup-cup involved. And when she is on outings, she is the perfect lady when walking around the store - she was polite, greeted everyone, picked out a chew toy and treats. She takes a treat ever-so-gently and is just an overall "Good Girl!" Her absolute favorite thing is playing with her tennis ball or squeaky ball!! No stuffy toys for this girl. She loves to be with her person but if you are busy, she is content to play by herself too. Virginia does well with kids and loves every human she meets but she does not love other dogs, and we recommend she be an only-pet home. Virginia is looking for a family to include her on their adventures and show her all the love this mama dog deserves!! This girl is an absolute LOVE and deserves the best home ever! Gus is located in East, TN. But if you are seeing this on adopt-a-pet, transport fees are included in the adoption fee. Out of state adopters are welcomed. Transport is available to your area in the NorthEast or Great Lakes area. We use the most animal friendly transport on the road (Rescue Riders Transport)! What we know about Gus: Great with dogs Great with kids (has lived with kids and another dog previously) Awesome temperament Calm, great on a leash About 2 years old Potty trained Crate trained Loves snuggles Gus came to us extremely underweight, nearly bald, with open wounds all over his body due to Demodex mange. He has since recovered fully and is ready to find his forever family! Gus was far too interested in the cats when we cat tested him as his herding instincts are present with these types of animals. However, he is great with other dogs and we use him to help introduce new dogs to the rescue. He also does fantastic with the 3 year old human on the rescue property! Gus has gone out on multiple Doggie Day Outs and did so well each time! He was his happiest self at the dog park with his rescue buddy (Folly) who has since been adopted. He likes to meet new people and go for car rides! We think he could be a heeler mix because of the speckles but we truly still don’t have a great idea about breed.
