Story
Dove came to us from south Texas in critical condition. She had a broken jaw and leg and had been suffering outside alone. Thankfully, our vets were able to get her all patched up and now she's ready to find her forever home! Dove has a big personality that's always sure to keep you entertained! She’s incredibly smart and eager to learn and has already mastered sit, shake, and down. She’s loves being around her people and is happy to lay by you on the couch. For a young puppy, Dove has a calm and easygoing energy. She has her playful zoomie moments but is overall very well-behaved and even goes to the office with her foster mom where she spends most of her day relaxing on her bed or entertaining herself with toys. She makes it her mission to greet everyone each morning and is always excited to welcome visitors. Dove loves being outside, running, sniffing, army crawling through the grass, and pouncing on bugs and frogs. She does great with other dogs and is eager to make friends, but she's still learning social cues and may need guidance around dogs who aren’t interested in playing. We believe she'd do well with a dog-friendly cat but her first instinct is to chase if they run from her. She is fully house trained and does an excellent job letting you know when she needs to go out AND sleeps through the night like a champ! Story
Affectionately called "Dorito Ears," Trap is very smart and knows the common commands. He would also want to let you know that he would love to learn more from you! His favorite things in the world are discovering balls in the yard and his friends. This cuddle bug would like an medium/active energy owner. By this we mean, you either love walks or would fit him into your gardening time in the yard. He would know how to self entertain with balls/toys as you garden, but sometimes would come in check with you to make sure you know he's still your garden pal. Treat motivated and Dog selective, Trap can be friends with his peers with proper introductions. He trusts the humans he knows and will slowly warm up to strangers. Once he gets some of his energy out, Trap is very content just relaxing, check in for some pets, napping, and playing with his toys. He also loves to snuggle. Trap is very house trained and rides well in the car. He is a very smart cookie and loves puzzle games too! He will thrive with an active person who will engage his body and his brain. If you've read this far, here are some unique quirks Trap has. He is afraid of sizzling noise of kitchen cooking, curious about dish washer, and is not a fan of the vacuum sounds. Will gather most of his toys into a place he's identified as his safe space / nap spot / or eating place. Knows the words home, find it, and inside + up/down. Understands Let's go/ walkie. Has a strong sit and lay down command is still being worked on. I'M NOT AT APA! yet, but I’m hoping my turn is coming soon. I’m currently at a partner shelter, and I’ve been placed on their Urgent Placement List - which means I’m one of their highest priority dogs to find a way out. I’ve been told that if someone steps up to foster or adopt me, APA! will bring me into their program and help me get ready for home life, so I'm just waiting to be chosen. All it takes is one person to change everything for me - email dog-foster-placement@austinpetsalive.org to be that person!

Story
Bring Home the Best Kind of Pillow—The Kind That Loves You Back Pillow is a sweet, silly soul who has been waiting a long time for someone to see just how special he is. He’s smart, attentive, and deeply people-oriented — the kind of dog who listens closely, tries hard, and wants nothing more than to share his days with someone who cares. During his breaks from the shelter, he’s proven to be an exceptional house guest: calm, respectful, and happy to curl up nearby just to be part of your world. He loves the simple joys of being a dog — fetch in the yard, sniffy walks, squeaky toys, and showing off tricks for treats (cheese is his weakness). After a bit of play, he’s all about belly rubs and quiet cuddle time. Pillow thrives on routine and blossoms when he knows what to expect, and he’s making wonderful progress in APA’s Top Dog program. He walks well on leash, is house-trained, and gets easier to handle every day. Pillow would do best in an adult-only home or one with older teens who understand his need for structure and gentle guidance. He has so much love to give, and he’s ready for a home where he can finally settle in, exhale, and feel like he belongs. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart, a silly streak, and a deep desire to bond with his people, Pillow might be the perfect match you’ve been searching for. Pillow absolutely shines in a home where he can feel secure, follow a predictable routine, and be part of the family. He’s been a perfect gentleman on his shelter breaks and sleepovers — calm, polite, and an excellent house guest. Ask about Pillow today! Whether you’re considering fostering or adopting, Pillow is ready to bring his goofy grin and loving heart into your home.

Story
Meet Petunia, the 3 year old Bull Terrier/Cane Corso mix whose infectious happiness lights up every room. This spirited canine is looking for her forever home and is overjoyed to be surrounded by her loving foster family. Petunia's perpetual joy is most evident when she sees her family, her tail wagging with boundless enthusiasm. One remarkable aspect of Petunia's story is her remarkable compatibility with other dogs. She effortlessly forges friendships with fellow canines, creating a harmonious atmosphere wherever she goes. Not just limited to her furry companions, Petunia is a natural around children of all ages, displaying a gentle and playful demeanor that makes her an ideal family pet. Despite a challenging start in life, Petunia's indomitable spirit shines through. Remarkably, these injuries had already healed, and Petunia now navigates her world with grace. Although surgery is deemed too risky, her resilience allows her to walk and even run, proving that love and care can overcome adversity. Beyond her physical strength, Petunia is a model of good behavior. House trained and affectionate, she revels in pets, cuddles, and the pure bliss of tummy rubs. Petunia's journey from a field to a loving home is a testament to her resilience, and she serves as an inspiration to all who cross her path. She is house trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated, & spayed. She is being fostered in Seguin, TX and is ready for her new home. To see more pictures and videos, copy and paste this link. Story
Ellie is an amazing dog and I am so sad to rehome her. We are moving (and unfortunately and heart breaking) we can't take her with us. I got Ellie from a rescue group when she was a puppy. She had been severely beaten (scars on her head and legs) and was deprived of food. Once she was healthy enough to adopt, she joined our family. She is absolutely wonderful with kids and gets along great with other dogs. She is not aggressive at all. In fact, she normally ends up cowering down to other dogs when approached. She is good on a leash, knows how to sit and stay. Understands verbal and hand commands as long as you continuously use them with her. She is very loving and enjoys hugs and affection. Ellie is 7 years old. She still has some energy in her, but mainly loves to sleep on her beds during the day (beds can be provided). I hope to find her a caring home where she can enjoy outside time and lots of love.

Story
Breaker is up for adoption in TX, NE and PNW (excluding MA)! Meet Breaker – Your Adventure Buddy in the Making! Breaker is a handsome Great Dane mix a little over a year old who is ready to find an active, committed family to call his own. At around 65 pounds, he’s a wonderful blend of big-dog presence and goofy puppy charm. Breaker is currently being fostered in Seguin, TX, but he can be transported to the Pacific Northwest and the Northeast United States for the right home. Breaker thrives on activity and he still has that classic puppy energy, so he’s looking for a family that understands the importance of positive correction, consistency, and continued training to help him grow into the best version of himself. With the right guidance, Breaker is eager to learn and please. One of Breaker’s favorite things in the world is going on adventures. He absolutely loves riding in the car and would be thrilled to tag along for hikes, outings, road trips, or any fun day spent exploring with his people. Water is another big favorite—splashing, wading, and cooling off are right up his alley. When playtime rolls around, Breaker is all in. He loves toys of all kinds and enjoys playing with dogs his own size. Most of all, Breaker wants to be with his people. He would happily spend the entire day with his family, whether that means being on the go or just hanging out together.
