Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi … my name is Grizzly!  Please take a minute and read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.   If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online. Grizzly is a BIG boy with a BIG personality and he needs the most special family ever! Grizzly is a super-sized, strong boy … and sometimes he is sure he is a lap dog.  The original owner thought he is a shar-pei, and we are sure he IS part shar-pei (which is a wonderful thing), but there is definitely something larger in his breed mix.  Possibly Great Dane, possibly mastiff. Without a Doggy DNA test we’ll never know, but he is 75 pounds, has long legs, and is well-muscled.  He can be the sweetest boy ever (he gives sweet kisses) and can also be a stubborn pain in your backside! He responds well to positive reinforcement. He gets very agitated over small dogs and cats and is very curious about chickens. Grizzly’s ideal owner will have experience with large, energetic dogs and will be physically and mentally strong enough to insure that Grizzly understands that Dad/Mom is always, without question, the pack leader.  Consistent positive enforcement of rules and boundaries will be essential for Grizzly to become the best boy he can be.  He is a work in progress. Grizzly came to us malnourished, with a severe case of demodectic mange due to a poor immune system, many allergies, skin infections, and entropion in both eyes.  After many rounds of medications, lots of medicated baths, various prescription foods and supplements, and surgery on both eyes, Grizzly has finally settled in to a healthy life.  Now he just needs to find the perfect family who will help him stay on the right path, and who will love him forever. Approximate age/birthdate:  July 15 2019 Weight/size: 75 lbs Housebroken:  YES as long as you do your part and take him out often Crate trained:  YES Personality:  people-oriented, dog-selective, protective of people he loves, stubborn Energy level:  high energy and needs to run but settles nicely inside, exuberant and loves life Fenced yard required?:   YES – NO EXCEPTIONS - he needs plenty of exercise daily, he has high prey drive, and he is protective of his people and territory Does he/she jump fences?  NO (but he absolutely could) Leash walk with manners:  YES Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit’ Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK      Spayed/neutered:   YES Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES Microchipped:   YES Social with other dogs:  Dog-selective and his play style is still a bit rough, so his 75 pounds make an impact Social with cats: NO CATS Good with children:  Grizzly might love children, but he may not be the right fit for all children due to his energy, size and strength.  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up. Adoption donation:  $225 We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Grizzly picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 3, 2024, 1:59 pm

Story
Meet Tyson! Tyson is a 10 month old male fawn boxer mixed puppy. He is a bundle of enthusiasm. He loves his toys and especially loves chew toys specifically. He is updated on his vaccinations but hasn't been neutered. He would prefer to be with an active family and does best with older kids in the house. He would love to have a back yard where he can run and play freely to get his energy out and stretch his legs from time to time. He is crate trained and will potty on pads or go outside too! Sometimes he gets nervous when his favorite people aren't by his side, but he does very well with calming chews to help him out from time to time. If you are interested please contact Lucretia at cresmith1219@gmail.com or text (434) 439-8206 Lynchburg Humane Society is assisting the owners in marketing this pet to help find a new home. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Sunny has been with us for nearly 300 days. When Sunny arrived, our poor boy had two hernias. We performed surgery to remove each of them and through it all he has been so patient and so easy to handle! Sunny is all better now but with these surgeries has come an expected, but understandably difficult roadblock for adopters, Sunny needs a diaper. Why does he need a diaper? After two surgeries everything down there is a bit more loose than when he was originally designed. We have worked hard to firm up his stool and potty training is not an issue! The diaper is just a precaution for the occasional drip or leak. We aren't sure how long his butt will be leaky, or if it will ever stop completely. But we know he doesn't deserve to sit in the shelter for another 300 days until we find out. It may sound difficult, but any extra time it takes to get ready, will be worth it with Sunny. Sunny is a GREAT dog, so changing a diaper is no big thing for him. Diapers are the easiest way to allow Sunny to roam freely inside a home, and they are inexpensive, and come in disposable or reusable varieties! Currently he is on a special diet to try and help tighten up things down there, but we hope he can be taken off that diet over time. Here are a few first hand experiences from Sunny's friends: "He's SUCH a good and easy walk and has the goofiest little strut when he's in the play yard" "Sunny is always up for a game of fetch or a good run, but he’s also incredibly loyal, always by your side when it’s time to relax" "Sunny is the perfect companion for those who love a fun-loving dog with a lot of heart and an even bigger sense of humor!" Sunny is our Pet of the Month so his adoption fee is currently waived, but if you’d like take him home as a foster first that is definitely an option. You can stop by any time to meet/adopt him or email foster@lynchburghumane.org if you are interested in fostering.
