Story
Kirby is an 8-year-old, neutered Pit Bull mix who has been waiting far too long for someone to choose him. He has had little to no adoption interest. We don’t understand why, because Kirby is truly one of the smartest, most steady dogs in our rescue.
Kirby is the kind of dog who already understands the rhythm of home life. He knows his daily routine, waits patiently in his spot for meals and treats, and has a calm, thoughtful way about him. He isn’t a wild, chaotic dog looking to turn your life upside down — he’s a loyal companion who wants a soft place to land and a person to call his own.
Kirby is house-trained, crate-trained, and does well when left home alone. He’s also good with visitors and gentle around kids and adults. He has lived with cats and has even enjoyed snuggling on a dog bed with them. He’s a great car rider, too — he’ll sit in the passenger seat like a person, ready to be your co-pilot.
Kirby still has his fun side. He loves going on hikes, exploring outdoors, and playing in streams. But at this stage in his life, what he really deserves is a home where he can relax, settle in, and be loved. Kirby is getting older, and our biggest wish is for him to retire in a home of his own, surrounded by comfort, routine, and people who see what a special dog he is.
Kirby has been adopted twice before and returned. One return happened after a conflict with another dog over tennis balls, so he will do best with thoughtful management around high-value toys. His second return was due to a major family life change. Through it all, Kirby has remained the same sweet, smart, deserving dog.
