Story
Lucious is an older gentleman who seems to be carrying the weight of a lot of uncomfortable medical issues while still trying his best to quietly navigate the world around him. He enjoys treats, likes spending time in the yard, rides well in the car, and reportedly lived peacefully with both children and other small dogs. Staff noted that while he is more reserved and independent than openly affectionate, he has allowed handling and gentle interaction without major issues. There is something very endearing about dogs like Lucious who do not demand attention but still seem comforted by calm voices, patient people, and simple kindness.
Lucious will need an adopter or rescue willing to provide continued veterinary care and thoughtful support as he manages chronic skin disease, ear issues, dental disease, arthritis, and multiple masses. He can become uncomfortable with prolonged handling, which is understandable given how much physical discomfort he is likely experiencing, so he will do best with someone who respects his boundaries and helps him feel safe. Senior dogs with medical needs are often overlooked, but they have so much heart left to give. Lucious deserves a soft bed, steady care, gentle hands, and the chance to spend his golden years finally feeling comfortable and understood.
All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home.
