Story
Sweet, petite, Pittie mix Daffodil is ready to bring some sunshine into your life. This happy, 1.5 year old, 41 pound gal loves playing fetch, (rain or shine) she retrieves and nicely drops her toy, and (somewhat) patiently waits for a re-throw. This sweetheart is always smiling, she knows “sit,” and takes her treats gently. We also believe she may have been housebroken in her previous life as she is quick to do her business once outdoors and does her best to keep a clean kennel. Daffodil is looking for someone who will give her some daily playtime and lots of love.

Story
Yesterday I had the pleasure of bonding with Waylon and I wanted to give a detailed report. Waylon is a dog whose life experiences clearly influence how he navigates the world, but he is also incredibly observant, loyal, and emotionally responsive. From the moment I picked him up from the shelter, Waylon bonded quickly and rode comfortably in the Tahoe. He especially enjoyed car rides and liked being close to his person — don’t be surprised if he tries to sit in your lap if given the opportunity. Waylon was excited and eager to explore, so I would recommend a harness and continued structure/routine to help him feel secure and consistent. He is food motivated, gentle when taking treats, and understood commands such as sit, stop, and down. We spent time at Freeman Lake, and Waylon appeared interested in other dogs. During one interaction, another dog growled at him, and Waylon reacted back verbally, but he was able to be redirected quickly and continue walking calmly without incident. Waylon is highly aware of body language and surroundings. He seemed more alert when people appeared nervous or uncertain around him and became more hypervigilant in over stimulating environments such as loud parks, sirens, or heavy activity. Despite this, he consistently looked to me for guidance and responded well to calm leadership and redirection. He does appear to have some prey drive toward squirrels and interest in cats, so slow introductions and management would be important. One of my favorite things about Waylon was how gentle and tolerant he was with my toddler and 10-year-old who is non verbal. He did very well around both children and seemed to enjoy simply being included in daily activities. Waylon is an amazing dog who would thrive with someone willing to provide patience, consistency, structure, and understanding as he continues decompressing from shelter life (arrival May 2nd?). He has a lot of potential and clearly wants connection and security.
