Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption Application Dax is an 8 month old male German Shepherd Dog mix who was rescued from the streets of Memphis. Dax is becoming comfortable in his foster home, his foster mom believes this is his first experience living inside and he likes it! He’s a little unsure around new people and new situations (see his video) but warms up quickly. Appears to be good with other dogs, foster mom has observed him in brief meetings with other dogs and he shows no signs of aggression. No history with kids, but would probably be fine with older dog savvy kids. Very active outside, settles down quickly in the house, good house manners. Affectionate with his people and loves to cuddle. Crate trained and housebroken. Not yet good on the leash, but we’re working on it. Rides great in the car. Estimated DOB is 12-1-25. Weighs about 50 pounds. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots. Dax's ideal adopter will understand that Dax needs further further socialization and obedience training in order to be a good pet. This is potentially a very nice young GSD mix who will make an awesome companion (and jogging partner!) for an active family who loves the breed. Here’s a note from his foster mom: Dax is crate trained and housebroken. He makes it abundantly clear when he wants out of the crate to go outside, standing there pawing at the door while I get the leash and unlock the door for him. He likes to know where 'his human' is at all times and follows me from room to room. He whines when I step out of his sight and stops immediately when I reappear. He likes to play tug of war with his toys, knows how to fetch, we’re still working on “release” but he likes to chase it down and then repeatedly throws it into the air himself so he can catch it again and again. His favorite toy is his stuffed green squeaky frog which you can see in the video. If Dax finishes all his food and is still hungry, he will repeatedly pick up the empty bowl and either drop it in the crate or hit it against the bars of the crate while whining at me. He’s curious about other dogs and will stop and watch them from across the street, but doesn't seem to be alpha or aggressive. If they come close enough, he seems friendly, will sniff and try to play with them. I have 4 cats and they’re terrified of him because he’s such a big, active puppy. Therefore, he’s not recommended for cats because, although I think he doesn’t intend to hurt them, he’s just too big and fast and active. I think he’s likely as scared of the cats as they are of him, but I’m not going to 'test that theory.' The only thing I’m basing that on is the fact that two of the cats have hissed and slapped at him when he got 'too close' (while he was on a leash) and he jumped back toward me and started whining.
