🐾💕 ASPEN SPENT HER FIRST YEAR SURVIVING… NOW IT’S HER TURN TO BE SPOILED! 💕🐾 Meet Aspen, our beautiful 1-year-old German Shepherd mix with a heartbreaking beginning and a whole lot of love to give. 🥹❤️ Aspen came to Tail Wags from a high-kill shelter in New Mexico, where she landed on the euthanasia list simply because the shelter was overcrowded. 💔 At just ONE year old, Aspen already appears to have been a mama. We suspect she may have been used for breeding, and signs suggest she recently had a litter of puppies. Just a baby herself, already having to be a mama. 🥺 Thankfully, Aspen made it out alive and into a loving foster home, where she’s discovering what life is supposed to be like! And this girl has quite the personality! 😂💕 🌸 A little about our sweet Aspen: 💕 Professional shadow — loves following her humans from room to room! ☀️ Sunbathing queen — happiest soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the outdoors! 🧀 CHEESE OBSESSED! — she’s picky about her treats, but bring out the cheese and suddenly she’s willing to negotiate anything! 😂 🐝 Aspiring bug catcher — currently on a mission to catch every flying insect in the yard. We’re hoping she learns that bees are NOT spicy sky raisins! 🐝😂 🧸 Learning how to dog — soft beds and toys are still new concepts to her. She’s slowly discovering the little luxuries every dog deserves! 🦴 Enjoys having something to chew on! 🏡 Doing great with potty training — she’s been going outside! 😴 Sleeps through the night in her crate — getting into the crate is still something she’s working on, but once settled, she’s quiet and sleeps peacefully. 👧 Loves affection from her foster’s daughter! — Aspen has been enjoying the love and attention she receives from her, and it’s so sweet watching her begin to trust. ❤️ 🐶 Learning to be part of a pack — she’s peacefully coexisting with the other dogs in her foster home! She hasn’t quite built up the confidence to start playing with them yet, but she’s taking things at her own pace. 🦮 Enjoying walks! — she’s been getting out and exploring the world with her foster family! ❤️ Sweet and affectionate — she genuinely wants love and attention from her people! But we also want to be transparent about Aspen. She’s only been out of the shelter for a short time and is still decompressing and learning to trust her new surroundings. Her foster has noticed some occasional defensive reactions, and we’re still figuring out what makes her uncomfortable. Being asked to enter her crate is one situation she struggles with, although she settles beautifully once inside. We’re continuing to learn her triggers, respect her boundaries and help her build confidence. She’ll need an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to work with her using patient, positive training. ❤️ And while she’s doing well around the other dogs in her foster home, she’s not quite ready to let loose and play just yet. That’s okay! Every little step forward is a victory, and we’re letting Aspen set the pace. Aspen doesn’t need someone expecting a perfectly trained dog. She needs someone who understands that she may never have had the opportunity to simply be a loved family pet. Someone who will show her that soft beds are for sleeping, toys are for playing, meals will always come, and people can be trusted. And maybe someone willing to share a little cheese. 🧀😂 At only one year old, Aspen has SO much life ahead of her. She’s already been a mama. She’s already faced a euthanasia list. Elsa is 8 years young and came from a neglect and abuse case in Colorado. She was confiscated from her "family," along with her son, Olaf. Elsa was so afraid when she arrived to our rescue and wouldn't stop shaking in the back of her crate. It took two weeks for her to gain confidence and trust us enough to start exploring the rescue. The rest is history... since Elsa created a bond with us, she has opened up SO much! She lives for her walks, is obsessed with snuggles and will quite literally follow you anywhere you go. She is wonderful on car rides and loves a good pup cup! Elsa's ideal family is someone who will continue to dress her up and treat her like the queen she is... lol. But really, she would thrive as an only pup who will spend the rest of her days spoiled, loved and cherished. She is going to make the most loyal and loving companion to a very lucky person/family.

Story
Olaf is a 6 year old, deaf Pittie who is the perfect mix of sweet and sensitive. He came from a home of abuse and neglect. Often, getting attacked by his dad, a large male Pittie, without intervention from his owners. He and Elsa were confiscated and saved from their awful home. Olaf is now looking for a family who can understand that he needs special care and training due to being deaf. Olaf, although he looks tough, is equally as sensitive and eager to trust. Olaf would love a family that has a yard and is home often, as he loves to be close to his humans! He is great on walks, has the biggest appetite, and loves being goofy with those that he trusts! Olaf loves car rides, is obsessed with foods (except carrots), and loves going for walks, as long as his human can advocate for him and take space from situations that Olaf doesn't hear coming like runners. Olaf is dog selective and has done great with dogs here at the rescue with slow and proper introductions so a home with another female pup will be considered on a case by case basis!
