His current owner cares deeply for him, but due to multiple health issues, she is no longer able to give Lionel the time, training, exercise, and socialization he needs to truly thrive. Meet Lionel Lionel is a handsome German Shepherd mix with a story of resilience and second chances. Estimated to be 5–6 years old, Lionel originally came from an Arkansas shelter after being found as a stray in heartbreaking condition. He was severely underweight, malnourished, suffering from mange, and heartworm positive when he entered the shelter. He was scheduled for euthanasia, but was rescued just in time and given the opportunity to recover. After spending time in foster care completing heartworm treatment, Lionel made his way to Wisconsin in December weighing around 70 pounds. Since then, he has fully recovered, gained about 20 pounds, and is now a healthy 90-pound boy ready for a fresh start with the right family. Lionel is not a wild or overly excitable dog, but he does need a home committed to giving him regular exercise, continued training, and stimulation. He is a big boy so needs someone who can handle his size. He is potty trained, crate trained, and walks nicely on leash with a pinch collar. He also knows commands like sit and has a solid foundation to continue building from. Lionel is good with other dogs and has done well around children, though because of his large size and possibly bumping into the littles, older respectful kids would be the better fit for his next home. He has also been around outdoor cats. Lionel has generally done well when the cats are calm, stay nearby, or rub on him, but may want to chase if they run, so a cat-savvy home or slower introductions would be ideal. Lionel is a loyal, beautiful, intelligent dog with an old soul who has overcome a lot. He simply needs a home that can better meet his needs. Age: About 5 years old Gender: Male Weight: 90 lbs Breed: German Shepherd mix Spayed/Neutered: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Leash Manners: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Has been around outdoor cats, chase risk if they run Good with Kids: Yes, older kids preferred Lionel deserves a home that can continue helping him succeed and give him the structure, activity, and companionship he needs. Explore our adoptable animals and find your perfect match today! For the latest updates on the mutts, follow us on Facebook: @muttlifewi Visit our website: Muttlife.org __________ Meet Mimi Mimi’s story is one of resilience and second chances. This 3-year-old pit bull terrier mix has been through far more than she ever deserved and is now ready for a new beginning filled with love and stability. Mimi was found as a stray by a local mail carrier, wearing a collar with a rabies tag. After efforts were made to locate her owner, it was discovered that he no longer wanted her. The shelter believes she may have been dumped after having a litter of puppies. Despite this heartbreaking start, Mimi has remained incredibly happy, friendly, and loving. Shelter staff could not say enough good things about her. She is described as playful, affectionate, and extremely easy to care for, making her a wonderful choice for a first-time dog owner. From her foster: Mimi is a medium-energy girl who loves to play! She enjoys rough-and-tumble playtime with her foster sister and tends to play on the more enthusiastic side. Because of this, she would do best with another dog who enjoys that same playful style. If she is the only dog in the home, she would thrive with someone committed to giving her daily walks or trips to the dog park. She is VERY dog friendly, gets along with everyone she meets including males and females. She does have a bit of prey drive so did not do well with cats in the home. She has done great with kids and would do well as a family dog. Her previous foster did not use a crate for her when they were gone and she was left in the kitchen and did great. Although, She is crate trained and does well with her current foster being crated while she is at work. Mimi is currently working on her leash manners, getting better every walk. Her current foster lives near lake Michigan so she has been enjoying long walks to the beach, maybe indulging in a pup cup on the way. While she has a playful side, Mimi’s favorite place to be is cuddled up on the couch with her person. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loves quiet companionship. She truly is a brindle lovebug who just wants to be close to her people. She did really well at our last meet and greet and handled all the other dogs and the chaos very well. She is not leash reactive and did awesome meeting lots of other people and dogs showing off her happy girl personality. Age: 3 years Gender: Female Weight: 40 lbs Breed: Pit bull terrier mix Spayed/Neutered: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Leash Manners: Improving Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: No Good with Kids: Yes Mimi has already shown so much heart and resilience. She deserves a safe, loving home and the chance to finally relax and be someone’s cherished companion. Explore our adoptable animals and find your perfect match today! For the latest updates on the mutts, follow us on Facebook: @muttlifewi Visit our website: Muttlife.org __________ Kory Needs a Foster or Adopter to Secure His Ride to Wisconsin Kory is currently in a shelter in Texas and needs a foster or adopter to secure his spot on transport to Cedarburg, WI with Mutt Life Dog Rescue in early June. The transport date is still to be determined and will depend on how many dogs receive fosters or adopters. A committed home is required for Kory to make the trip, and we’re hopeful the right person is out there for him. Meet Kory Kory is a sweet and friendly puppy with a whole lot of growing left to do. At only 13 weeks old, this big boy already weighs 40 pounds, and judging by the size of his paws, he is going to get a lot bigger. Kory came into the shelter alongside his mom, Katya, after the two were found as strays with no signs of ownership. Now he is looking for a loving family ready to help him start his next chapter. Despite his size, Kory is still very much a puppy. He is social, affectionate, and enjoys meeting people. He is dog friendly and would likely do well in a home with other dogs. While he has not been cat tested, he would likely do fine with proper introductions. He is also expected to do well with kids. Kory is still learning the basics, especially when it comes to leash walking. Right now, he is unsure of what he is supposed to do on leash and tends to put on the brakes rather than walk forward. Like any young puppies, he will need patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement as he builds confidence and learns new skills. Because of his age, size, and expected adult size, Kory would thrive with a family prepared for a large breed puppy and all the training, structure, and fun that comes with raising one. If you are looking for a lovable big puppy to grow alongside your family, Kory could be the perfect fit. Age: 13 weeks old Gender: Male Weight: 40 lbs Breed: German Shepherd Mix Spayed/Neutered: Likely will be for transport Potty Trained: Not yet Crate Trained: Not yet Leash Manners: Working on it Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Likely with proper introductions Good with Kids: Likely yes Kory is ready to keep moving forward and would love a foster or adoptive home to help make that happen.
