Meet Koda!This handsome 5 year old husky is looking for a fresh start and a family to call his own. Koda came to the shelter in rough shape, but we won’t let his past define him. Every day, he continues to show us what a resilient and gentle soul he truly is.Koda can be shy and reserved when meeting new people. New situations and unfamiliar faces can make him a little unsure at first, but with patience, kindness, and a little encouragement, he has shown that he is capable of building trust and finding comfort in gentle affection. Once he begins to feel safe, you can see glimpses of the sweet dog hiding beneath his cautious exterior.Despite his shyness, Koda has been nothing but tolerant, calm, and docile during his time at the shelter. He appreciates having his boundaries respected and, like many Huskies, prefers affection to be on his own terms. He may not be the type of dog to immediately jump into your lap, but earning his trust is a rewarding experience. Once he is comfortable, Koda is very affectionate and really enjoys being next to his person. Koda is looking for a quiet, understanding home where he can decompress and learn that the world can be a safe and happy place. He has previously lived with a child, and older children who can respect his need for space would likely be a good match. Koda has shown some resource guarding tendencies with other dogs, so he would be best as the only dog in a household, or could likely live with another dog if his adopters are dog savvy and committed to managing his resource guarding. While he has not lived with cats before, slow and careful introductions may help him successfully adjust to a feline companion.One of Koda’s many strengths is that he is already house-trained and crate-trained, giving him a great foundation as he transitions into a new home.
