Story
Amy March: A Little Woman With a Very Big StoryMeet Amy, the youngest of our Little Women, and quite possibly the one with the most dramatic makeover story. At just 2.5 years old and 9 pounds, this tiny Shih Poo (Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle mix) has already lived through something no dog should ever experience. Amy isa puppy mill survivor, and when she first arrived, she was so frightened that we initially described her as feral. Not because she was mean, actually quite the opposite. She simply wanted nothing to do with people. She wouldn't let us hold her, didn't understand why anyone wanted to touch her, and spent her days trying to escape or disappear. And then.... Amy happened.Little by little, she discovered that humans could be trusted. She learned that hands could bring kindness instead of fear. She learned that a soft bed is pretty wonderful. She learned that meals arrive on schedule. She learned the meaning of "outside," "bedtime," "upstairs," and the all-important "UP!" And somewhere along the way, she discovered the shocking truth that cuddles are actually AMAZING.Now? Amy seeks out her people. She's sweet. She's curious. She's playful. She's funny. And she's beginning to figure out this whole "asking for attention" business. Watching her personality emerge has been one of the great joys of her foster family's experience.Like Amy March, she has a little flair for looking adorable and making sure everyone notices. Her favorite hobbies include looking cute and innocent while secretly spying on you and, naturally, preparing for her future career as a social butterfly.Amy is housebroken, rarely barks, and gets along beautifully with dogs ranging from tiny 4 pounders to 35 pounders. She likes having canine friends around, although she could absolutely be an only dog if her humans are home often and willing to continue helping her build confidence and social skills. A confident canine companion would be wonderful for a family where she would spend more time alone. She also does well with cats. She's still learning about the world. She isn't leash trained yet, and car rides are a work in progress. Baths, grooming, and nail trims will need to become positive experiences rather than terrifying ones. When frightened, Amy doesn't growl, snap, or bite, she simply wants to GET OUT OF THERE and find somewhere safe. Her future family will need patience, consistency, and a healthy appreciation for the fact that trust isn't built in a day.Older, calm, respectful children may be okay. Toddlers, however, are absolutely not Amy's cup of tea.Amy's early life left her with some catching up to do, but she's young, resilient, incredibly sweet, and, most importantly, willing to learn. And perhaps the most fitting part of her story?Amy was lucky enough to escape the puppy mill at only 2.5 years old. We suspect she may have been discarded because she wasn't producing enough puppies or was no longer considered useful. Whatever the reason, her life is hers now.She is free. Free to run. Free to play. Free to be curious. Free to discover cuddles. Free to become the dog she was always meant to be.So yes, Amy should absolutely have the fancy little gold and cream wardrobe she deserves. We think she'd look particularly fetching in pearls. And if she needs a theme song for her grand entrance? It would be "I'm Free" by The Rolling Stones.Because Amy March has finally discovered something far more valuable than being pretty: Freedom. Now she's looking for her very own Laurie, or perhaps just a wonderfully patient family, to help her write the happiest chapter of her life.Amy is in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and she's ready to meet the people who will show her that happily ever after is real.Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. Story
Mipsy Spayed Female 8 years old 20lbs Breed Guess: Poodle / Shih Tzu Mix Mipsy is such a silly little mop head! This happy, bouncy girl loves to trot around outside, play with the other pups, and take in the sunshine. She’s technically a “senior” girl, but she has plenty of pep in her step. She is calm and well-mannered in her kennel. She enjoys her playful moments and loves a good treat! She’s definitely ready to be out of the shelter and in her loving forever home.
