🌸 Meet Poppy — A Little Flower Waiting to Bloom 💕🐾 Sweet Poppy is a very scared girl who is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. 🥹❤️ New people, new surroundings, and lots of activity can feel overwhelming for her, so she’ll need a patient family willing to let her build confidence at her own pace. Poppy is also a high flight risk, so her forever family will need to be extra careful with doors, gates, and transitions while she settles in. She needs a secure environment and people who understand that keeping her safe is a very important part of helping her feel comfortable. 🏡🐾 She may not be ready to show you her whole personality right away, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Sometimes the quietest, most frightened dogs blossom into the most wonderful companions once they finally feel safe. 🌸 Poppy isn’t looking for someone who expects instant confidence. She’s looking for someone who will say, “Take all the time you need. I’ll be right here.” ❤️ If you have patience, understanding, and a heart for the shy ones, Poppy may be the little flower you’ve been waiting to help bloom. 🌸🐾 Dogs/Kids: Must meet everyone in the home! Meet Waddles! 🐾💕Waddles came to us after a massive breeding operation was shut down with nearly 100 dogs. Because of the life she lived before coming here, she is very scared and has a lot to learn about being a companion dog.Waddles is not housetrained and may be unfamiliar with things like leashes, household noises, being handled, and normal home routines. She will need a very patient, understanding adopter who is willing to give her time to decompress and learn at her own pace.Progress with Waddles may be slow, and her new family will need to celebrate the little victories. She needs someone who understands that trust cannot be rushed.Waddles has had a difficult start, but she deserves the chance to discover what it means to feel safe, comfortable, and loved. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Meet Mullet! 🐾💙Mullet is a 2-year-old Shih Tzu weighing about 15 pounds. He is one of nearly 100 dogs rescued after a massive breeding operation was shut down.Because of the life Mullet knew before coming to us, he is very scared and not housetrained. Normal things like living inside a home, walking on a leash, household noises, being handled, and receiving affection may all be completely new to him.Mullet does well with other dogs, but we are still learning how he feels about cats and children. He will need a very patient adopter who understands that trust will take time and that progress may come in tiny steps. He should never be rushed or expected to immediately behave like a dog who has always lived in a home. His new family will need to give him structure, consistency, kindness, and plenty of time to decompress. For Mullet, success might start with something as simple as choosing to come a little closer or relaxing in the same room. He deserves someone who will celebrate every one of those little victories and show him what it means to finally be someone's beloved dog. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Meet Wiggles! 🐾🌸Wiggles is one of the dogs who came to us after a large breeding operation involving nearly 100 dogs was shut down. She has spent much of her life in a breeding environment and is now trying to adjust to a completely different world.Wiggles is very scared and not housetrained. Many normal parts of home life may be new or frightening to her, including walking on a leash, household sounds, new people, and receiving affection. She will need a patient and committed adopter who understands that she may take a long time to feel comfortable. She cannot be rushed or expected to behave like a dog who has always lived in a home.Wiggles needs someone willing to give her structure, kindness, and plenty of time while she learns that people can be safe and life can be good. Meet Mustache! 🐾🤎Mustache is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu weighing about 15 pounds. He is another one of nearly 100 dogs rescued after a massive breeding operation was shut down.Mustache spent his early life in a breeding environment, so the world outside of that is still very unfamiliar to him. He is scared and not housetrained, and everyday experiences like leashes, household noises, new people, affection, and simply living inside a home may take time for him to understand.Mustache has done well with dogs, cats, and children, but he will still need a calm and patient family who understands where he came from. Being friendly with other animals does not mean he is ready to jump right into normal home life. His adopter will need to give him time to decompress, establish a predictable routine, and allow him to build trust at his own pace. There may be accidents. There may be moments when he retreats or becomes overwhelmed. Patience will be incredibly important.Mustache doesn't need someone expecting a perfect little lap dog on day one. He needs someone willing to show him, one day at a time, that he is safe and that life can be so much more than what he knew before. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt.
