Born on July 7, 2023, Ginger is a purebred Shih Tzu weighing just under 10 pounds, and although she is still a young girl, she has already experienced a love that many dogs spend a lifetime searching for. Ginger belonged to an older gentleman nearing his 90s who adored her beyond words. As his health continued to decline and everyday tasks became increasingly difficult, he found himself facing one heartbreaking reality: he could no longer promise Ginger the future she deserved. Rather than allow her to one day wake up alone after an unexpected loss, he made the incredibly selfless decision to say goodbye while he was still here. Their final chapter together wasn’t filled with fear or uncertainty—it was filled with gratitude, love, and the hope that someone else would one day love Ginger just as deeply as he had. When Ginger first arrived in our care, she was battling infections in both of her middle ears. We never saw that as neglect, only the reality of someone who physically couldn’t keep up with the care she needed anymore. We were grateful to take over where he left off, and thanks to our wonderful veterinarian, both ears have healed beautifully and continue to improve exactly as we had hoped. The beautiful thing about Ginger is that despite all the changes she’s experienced, she has never stopped loving people. She has a peaceful, gentle spirit that seems to calm everyone around her. She isn’t the kind of dog who demands to be the center of attention. Instead, she quietly finds her place beside you, content simply being wherever you are. Whether she’s following you from room to room, resting at your feet while you work, joining you on a car ride, or curling up beside you at the end of the day, Ginger reminds you that the best companions don’t need to say a word to make you feel loved. She has wonderful manners in the home and transitions beautifully into daily life. She is house trained, crate trained, rides wonderfully in the car, and does exceptionally well during grooming appointments. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and would thrive in a home with another respectful companion, though she would be just as happy soaking up all the love as someone’s one and only. Ginger has been spayed, is current on all of her vaccinations, microchipped, and received an excellent overall examination from our veterinarian. Aside from treating her ears, the only recommendation was a future routine dental cleaning for a very mild amount of tartar that our veterinarian felt could comfortably wait, allowing her to avoid unnecessary anesthesia for now. There are dogs who simply become part of your life, and then there are dogs who quietly become part of your heart. Ginger is one of those rare souls. She has already known what it means to be cherished, and because one man loved her enough to put her needs before his own, she now has the opportunity to spend the rest of her life bringing that same unconditional love into another family’s home. It isn’t given freely or rushed, it is built one gentle moment at a time. And once you’ve earned it, you’ve gained a friend whose love runs deeper than words could ever describe. That is Biscuit. Beneath his cautious first impression is one of the sweetest, happiest little souls you could ever hope to meet, simply waiting for someone to show him that the world is a safe and wonderful place. Biscuit is a handsome Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier mix born on January 8, 2026. He currently weighs right around 10 pounds and is expected to mature between 12 and 14 pounds, making him the perfect little companion for just about any lifestyle. When you first meet Biscuit, he may be a little reserved. New people and unfamiliar situations can make him uncertain, and he’ll look to you for reassurance while he figures things out. What he needs isn’t someone to change who he is, but someone who understands that confidence grows through patience, consistency, and love. Every day we’ve watched him become just a little braver than the day before, and it has been one of the greatest joys to witness. We know his future family will experience that same beautiful transformation as he settles into a home where he feels safe. Once Biscuit knows he belongs, his personality begins to shine. His little tail is constantly wagging whenever he’s happy or excited to be part of your day, and seeing that tiny tail going is enough to make anyone smile. He has such a gentle, joyful spirit and truly enjoys simply being included in whatever you’re doing. While he loves affection and spending time with his people, he also has a wonderfully mellow side. If you’re working around the house, reading a book, or relaxing after a long day, he’ll happily curl up nearby, content just knowing he’s close to the people he loves. He also has a playful side that comes alive outdoors. Watching Biscuit run through the yard with another kind, playful dog is enough to remind you what pure happiness looks like. He enjoys having canine friends, but he certainly doesn’t require another dog in his forever home. As long as he has a person who will spend time with him, encourage him, and include him in daily life, he will be perfectly content. His greatest desire isn’t another dog, it’s a family who will become his safe place. Biscuit came into our care because a young woman who loved him deeply was preparing to leave for college. Knowing she could no longer give him the consistency and commitment he deserved, and with her parents’ work schedules making it impossible for them to take over his care, she made the incredibly selfless decision to ask us to find him a family who could give him everything she knew he deserved. It was a decision made entirely out of love, and we promised her we would find the home where Biscuit could truly flourish. He has wonderful manners in the home and thrives when he has a predictable routine. Biscuit is house trained and does an excellent job going outside every couple of hours. Like many dogs, he finds comfort in consistency, and maintaining a regular schedule will help him continue to succeed. He is crate trained and currently sleeps peacefully in his crate each night, although we have no doubt he would happily transition to sleeping in a dog bed beside yours or even snuggled up in bed if that’s what his future family prefers. He is also a perfect gentleman during grooming appointments and genuinely enjoys being pampered. Grooming days have become little spa days for him, and he handles them beautifully. One of our favorite things about Biscuit is his adorable classic Shih Tzu underbite. It peeks through in many of his photos and gives him so much personality. It’s one of those charming breed characteristics that Shih Tzu lovers know and adore, and in Biscuit’s case, it somehow makes him even more endearing. The one area we haven’t had the opportunity to work extensively on is leash training. Because we’ve focused on building his confidence first, formal leash work is still ahead of him. Thankfully, Biscuit is an incredibly smart little boy, eager to learn, and we have every confidence that with patient guidance and positive encouragement, he’ll quickly master walking on a leash just as he has everything else. Biscuit isn’t a barker, which many families appreciate. He enjoys a peaceful home and generally stays quiet, though he’ll let you know if he hears something truly unfamiliar. As he has settled into rescue life, even those alerts have become less frequent because he’s learned that not every new sound is something to worry about. Because Biscuit is still growing, our veterinarian has recommended waiting until he reaches approximately 10 to 12 months of age before being neutered, allowing him the opportunity to fully mature. For that reason, he will be adopted on a neuter contract. He is current on all of his one-year vaccinations, has been microchipped, and has been thoroughly examined by our veterinarian. As part of his routine care, we submitted a fecal sample to the laboratory, and based on those results, he completed two rounds of deworming to ensure he is healthy and ready for his forever home. He will also go home with an official health certificate from our veterinarian. Biscuit is looking for someone who understands that some of the most rewarding relationships take a little time to blossom. The family who chooses him won’t simply be adopting a dog, they’ll have the privilege of watching a timid little boy slowly discover just how wonderful life can be. They’ll witness the first moments of newfound confidence, the excited tail wags, the happy zoomies across the yard, and the quiet evenings spent beside the people he trusts with his whole heart. Sophie is a sweet 4 year old who spent the first year of her life on the streets of Fresno. She was captured pregnant close to 1 year old and taken to the Fresno shelter. After their birth puppies were born they were moved to foster care. I adopted her after learning about her online. She was terrified of people and took about a year before she could trust strangers. She is so fun and loves to play ball and chase and loves small dogs even medium are ok. She’s a little afraid of big dogs until she becomes friends. I’ve now loved and worked with her for 3 years but she still can nip if she is startled or touched in sensitive areas. Our vet discovered a damaged disc causing a lot of pain and requires pain meds every morning. The cost of the pain meds is around $30 a month. Our vet says surgery is not possible on Sophie but she’s good as long as she takes her pain medication. I love her so much but we have a baby coming and my son’s dog Max doesn’t accept Sophie in our new home we share.
